Looks like there's still a way to go.

To those who expressed their support around a month ago, the news is that my firm behaved wonderfully: they gave me the promotion (and it's an important one) while accepting that if Berkeley calls, I'm going. It all sort of fell in to place: they realized that the rank I'd be replaced at makes no difference to the business plan, but that as long as I'm here, I'm more useful/the firm gets more out of me if I'm in this position of greater leadership and responsibility. My team (which was just a start-up a few years ago) is considered a priority by the global head of our division, we're growing in top and bottom line terms and I'm more and more involved in decision-making.

So all that is missing is for Haas to value me too :) I didn't update the committee this time, as they knew the promotion was on the table (I've been rediscovering my childhood passion for tech and entrepreneurship but that doesn't affect my short term goals, so I also decided not to update with that). Otherwise, if this dream is crushed, it's the R1 drawing board once again and saying hi to new schools. That said, it's still early June. I wouldn't be surprised if there is still some multiple-admit shuffle up until early July or so. Meanwhile... Berkeley is just too good of a fit to lose sight of :)

Hey guys, I have a question.
On the Berkeley website, it is said that only international students who studied in a country where the official language is English are exempt from the TOEFL requirement. Even US citizens who did their undergrad degree in a non-English country must take the test.
However, what if a non-native speaker studied in a non-English country entirely in English, that is, all the courses are taught in English. Do you think Berkeley can waive the TOEFL requirement in this case ?

I doubt they will. They are pretty particular and straight forward about TOEFL requirement.

It struck here too but I guess it has been a learning experience. See you for the round 1 play offs in sept/oct.

Cheers and all the best.

Just curious, is anyone opting to stay on the waitlist despite the e-mail saying the class is full?

you mean to say you can be on the waitlist even though the class if full?

yeah, my e-mail says,

"At this time, we are unable to make any additional offers. Though our incoming class is full, we may have a few confirmed students who become unable to attend, thus creating the opportunity for us to make additional offers to those candidates remaining on the waitlist. Throughout the summer, we will continue to review the waitlist and will notify you of any changes to your admissions status.

If you wish to remain on the waitlist and feel that you may still be able to attend in the fall, kindly respond to this message to confirm by Monday, June 13, 2011. If you are not interested in remaining on the waitlist, please let us know, and we will withdraw your application."

Lucky you for making it this far. Of course they will have some melt (every school does) and it sounds like the WL has been thinned out considerably.
