The interviewers are given a specific list of questions. Hope this helps.

do they report our answers back or do they have to give feedback for questions different than the ones asked of us?

Officially there's not supposed to be a difference, except you will be reviewed sooner. On the CBS website, it says that RD applications won't go under review until December. If your application is as good as you can make it and CBS is your top choice, ED should be your round.

Hey guys, was wondering if I'm at a disadvantage by applying towards the fag end of ED round for CBS? Am i still better off than applying in RD?

That's exactly what I wanted to know...Do they answer a different set of questions when they're reporting back to the adcom post-interview? Instead of reporting the applicant's answers, I would think that they focus mainly on the applicant's behavior and presentation.

I suspect the interview report does include some mention of the applicant's response to specific questions. My interviewer actually called me later in the day after my interview to say he neglected to ask me a particular question (about adversity I had overcome) so I answered it over the phone. Granted, we had a pretty good rapport, but either he forgot a mandatory question or he didn't ask me quite enough questions to adequately offer the feedback Columbia requested.

Interesting that happened amakelikbe. Because my interview (which in my opinion went well) did not include ANY of the typical questions. All he asked was "why columbia" and we talked about other things, but no questions about my goals, adversity, ethics, etc. I wonder how he filled out the form without any of my responses. This guy is actually on the board of one Columbia's Grad schools (not CBS, although he went CBS) so maybe he didnt feel like he had to go through the typical interview process?

my interviewer specifically told me that the interview is only used to check whether there's anything inconsistent with what you said on your resume. other than that, it's just a formality.

Lawgone...so you're saying that the school's thought process is that if you get an interview, you *should* get in, but that if someone either a) bombs the interview, or b) has inconsistencies, that would be grounds for ding after interview?

I think LGB means that the "questionnaire" aspect of the interview is for "sanity/reality check" purposes. Otherwise, I think that 'why CBS', emotional intelligence, professional composure and anything else that counts as "fit" will be on the radar screen. That said, I am surprised that one interviewer called the candidate back to clear up a question.

Umm.. I am not sure that's how it works. I believe if you are given an interview, at the very least you are a maybe, and if so, your interview may help you to get into the yes pile. But I think over a half of people interviewed are already in the "yes" pile, so the interview is just there to check anything abnormal. In other words, he meant that the interview is less of an affirmative process. It's there as a safety guard.

Ok that's what I figured but when I read what you had said before I got a little curious! Thanks.

Miller emailed me back just an hour ago and asked me to call her back. So I did. She greeted me" welcome BACK to Columbia!!" I am finally in at it! 12 weeks

Lawgone, now that you are admitted, do you know whether Columbia is conducting background (Kroll) checks on you? Are they seeking to verify anything, contacting your recommenders, etc.?

I haven't been contacted by Kroll yet. Well I guess they will sometime later. They just received my 6k deposit.

The Kroll check is part of the admitted students to-do list. For J-Termers it will become available around October and needs to be done by December. I guess it will pop up in your to-do list sooner or later (they keep updating this list so I imagine that for ED the list is still in the works)

I haven't even got the admitted student packet yet. Just called this morning, they said they were working on j-term now. I won't get a password to the admitted student's website until early October.

Makes sense. Also, I am not sure if J-Term is any different than ED/RD, but for me there was no "admitted student packet" (as opposed to the ones I got from other schools ). At least not an actual one. I just got the formal acceptance letter by FedEx, and the on line access to the admitted students site where you get all the info and actions items.
