OMG is right! (by the way, what does the Z in ZOMG stand for?)

Oh, the Z is just me a little overexcited.

Wow - so a 1st time applicant has already been accepted! Submitted 8/13, Interview Interview invite 8/27, and Admitted 9/10 (according to Businesweek.com).

Any CBS interview invites for the GMATClub early birds? I'm getting nervous....or maybe it's just wishful thinking.

Solaris,

That is exciting news but crazy news too. That is a far earlier timeline than anyone had last year (including re-applicants). I realize that the sample size of the posters on these (and BW's) forums is tiny, but the next person who is furthest along in the process this year is a re-applicant who just got his interview invite on 9/5 and interviewed 9/9 or 9/10 with no decision yet. I am feeling a bit skeptical since the BW poster was only posting for the 1st time when he announced his acceptance and never even posted anything else on that thread prior to his acceptance. There was lots of speculation about when interviews would start going out, and he kept silent the entire time even though he had an interview invite back on 8/27? Then 3 posts in one day after his acceptance even though it seems intuitive that one would post on BusinessWeek LESS frequently after getting accepted... I wonder if someone is pranking us...

Aw shucks, maybe I'm just being an old jealous fart :? I guess my official reaction is that I'm happy for him and getting antsy! hehe

he did submit on 8/13, so if he submitted at 12:01am on 8/13 then he was the first app under review. He's probably geniune.

There were a bunch of people who submitted 8/13 (or even earlier!) and going by 45-50% of applicants typically interviewed, we are yet to hear of anything other than the 2 interview invites disclosed on Businessweek. That seems a little odd.

I was just on BW and I'm a little surprised by the lack of interview invites. Around 10 people submitted on the first or second day and it's now been over 4 weeks for them. Last time the majority of interview invites were out within 4 weeks for the August submitters.

To put some positive spin on this, the longer you wait for your interview invite, the earlier you receive your post-interview decision! :)

Hey Solaris, what do you mean by that? Are you merely pointing out that the 12 week notification period is fixed and thus an increase in one interval (time until interview invite) necesssarily entails a decrease in another interval (time until decision)?

Or do you mean something else entirely? I'm hoping you have some secret quote from the Adcom stating that they pity the late interview invitees and thus render decisions for them super fast! :-D

tieny, i distinctly remember it being said on one of the BW CBS threads that the later you get your interview invite, the more reviews your application has undergone, and thus lesser final deliberation is needed about whether to make an offer or not. if the first reviewer requests an interview, you will still have to wait for the second and final committee review before a decision is rendered. in fact most folks who get admit decisions a day or two after their interviews seemed to have waited longer than the 3-4 week average for interview invites.

I would be interested in seeing the statistics of the students who got admitted and those who got dinged with a super late interview invite. To me, as u rightly said, a super late invite means that the 1st reviewer dint like u to request an interview. That should increase the odds of a ding!

Ah, the very talk of "dings" makes me nervous!

You will receive some sort of notification within 10 weeks of your app going complete. It is possible to receive an interview invite in Week 8 and get your decision after week 10 (because of setting up an interview, interviewer submitting feedback, etc.). All CBS commits to is having you receive some sort of notification (i.e., new information regarding your status) within 10 weeks. In other words, you are not necessarily promised a final decision within 10 weeks.

Indeed, ryguy.

What I am pointing out however is that if you receive and interview invite 8 weeks later, it is believed to be very likely that you would get an admit/deny decision within a few days after your interview feedback is received. On the other hand, let's say if you receive an interview invite within 3 weeks, it may be that your final decision will take 2-3 weeks to be released.

Since there's several hundred pages of CBS threads on BW, I can't exactly remember where this was said. And yes, I've gone through each and every one of them, heck it's 8pm on a Friday and this is what I'm doing for fun. :read [edit - see below]

But if you see the 2007 ED applicant spreadsheet on the 2007 CBS ED thread there, you'll notice a lot of the late October through December invites received decisions 2-3 days after their interview feedback was received. On the other hand several September and early October invites received their decisions a couple of weeks later.

I don't know, maybe I'm just grasping at straws here. :) Anything to feed my CBS obsession!

edit - found it! here's what Ben May from CBS admissions posted on BW back in 2006:

There is no real typical turnaround time for decision after an interview because an interview can come any time in the evaluation process: after first read, after second and after going to committee. So someone who gets a committee invite will have a long period before they get the invite and a relatively fast turnaround time after the interview completes, as compared to someone who gets invited after a first read, who will get an interview invitation relatively shortly but then has to go back to be read a second time and get in the queue to go to the committee. Then there's second-read invites which are somewhere in the middle... Hope this clarifies things!
