Anyone have any idea when Cornell sends out the emails regarding the background checking (Kroll etc)? I read somewhere on the website that "a background check is required before matriculation". Is there any information in the pack? Mine hasn't arrived yet.

I have only skimmed through the binder but I am pretty certain that there is nothing about the background check in there.

Oh you got the binder so fast..haven't got it yet :(

According to ariel, Cornell does the background check two weeks before classes start: kroll-background-check-59285-60.html?hilit=kroll#p807402

I didn't see anything about it in my admission binder.

I had my interview on the same day, yet I applied in R3. Don't you think it is a little late to get an interview in R3? Are we considered R4 now? Which would automtically mean no $$.

It is late, but one thing I've discovered in this process is that for most schools, the deadlines sometimes get bent. Did you ask your interviewer when you should expect to hear back? That would tell you whether you are considered R4 or or an extended R3. Regardless, if you got your application in by the R3 deadline I don't think they would automatically disqualify you from $$ consideration.

I did speak to an adcom member about when I would hear back because if I do get accepted I would want to attend DJ on April 8th. So the adcom member mentioned that I would not be pooled in with R4 and should hear back very soon as in maybe next week. I am guessing we may still be considered for $$ as we are R3 applicants but I am not sure how much of the funding pool is still up for grabs. So fingers crossed... Oh and also... my application status changed to Complete!

Correct. Cornell Kroll b/g checks are typically done in the summer. Last year they were right before orientation started. You won't find any info about it in the admission binder, as you have noted. You will receive an email most likely some time in July (not sure of the timing this year) telling you where to go to log in. There is a dedicated Kroll portal and you will need to sign and fax a waiver before the Kroll checks begin. Said otherwise, no one will go and do a check on you without you knowing about it, so hopefully that puts minds at ease.

got a decision today... well not really - I am on the waitlist :( so the wait continues I guess. Could any waitlisters on this forum can pitch in some advice?

Also, strangely the status says waitlist and asks me to open a letter via a link for further instructions but I do not have the link to do so.

Congrats promethean! What all did you do after they placed you on WL?

Thanks, I'm stoked --

I attended the WL webinar.
I emailed Heidi expressing my interest in Johnson and asking for any advice to improve my profile.
I emailed Heidi the next day after receiving an offer from another graduate program -- I let her know I had to reply by April 5th.
She emailed back saying that they would give me a final decision before then.
One of my co-workers sent an additional letter of rec.

I didn't intend to spam them like that, but the offer from the other program shortened my timetable.

To everyone on WL, have hope -- he said I was the first WL they've contacted so far.

We interviewed on the same day. I am still waiting on a decision.

I just sent in my letter of withdrawal to Cornell. That should free up a spot for another waitlister.

Good luck everybody!
