OK all those who attended the BDW...

Was there some talk official/unofficial about the recent drop in the rankings? Specially regarding the surprising placement statistic on those rankings...

Any other information worth sharing ??

I had a great time meeting everyone at BDW. I will be posting pictures from the apartment tour. However, my feeling was that they showed us very expensive apartments. I liked them, but a little outside of what I would like to pay for a place I will rarely see.

Well,it probably depends on your perspective. As someone who comes from a larger, more expensive city all the apartments are a steal and they're super nice. I'd probably have to pay at least 1400 in DC to get something similar to Station 9 here. You could always get a roommate that would help reduce your costs.

I had a great time at BDW too. Duke did a fantastic job and I met so many really great people while I was there.

I agree that if you want luxury you pay less for it in Durham. I have lived in very very expensive cities over the years so my initial reaction is the same. However, the local market is much much cheaper than these places would lead you to believe. Take a look at Pinnacle Ridge, Belmont, Springfield.

That being said, The lofts and Station 9 are pretty good. I agree about the roomate, but I will be getting married in the summer and am unsure that having a roomate would be a good thing. Although if I found the right person I would consider it.

If ndhlp and I hadn't bought a house, we would have rented an apartment in a house, or a small house. Yes, S9 and company are comparatively expensive (though you get pretty nice amenities, with the pool, lounge, gym, etc). Try Trinity Heights, Trinity Park, Old West Durham, and Watts-Hillandale. I like these neighborhoods a lot. When we were looking last year, we saw 2-BR places for ~$600.

You won't live in the middle of the action, but it's a better price.

Dear wonderful aaudetat,

Have a question for you that I think many of us Duke admits might be interested in. Computing. The admit portal does not seem to have a direct link to information, and the information I do have I want to remain in denial about.

I am a Mac user, and do not like the idea of buying a new pc laptop before arriving at school. Is it possible to use a Mac or is it a bad idea?

If you do not respond in an efficient fashion I will reveal the TRUE meaning of your user name to the entire gmat community!! :twisted:

Hey defenestrate,

I can tell you that I've done quite a bit of research on this and just recently bought a new Mac to use at school. This is what I've heard from the 4-5 people I've talked to.

If you use Parallels (or VMware Fusion) and Win XP, you won't have any problems at all with compatibility. With that said, most of the students stop using Parallels when they realize they don't even need it because Mac Office 2004 is fully compatible with MS Office 2003, which was the school standard this year. Things may change (i.e. Office 2007 standard), but it seems unlikely to me.

Bottom line, there are plenty of people with Macs and thus there should be a good support group to deal with any issues that may arise. Hope that helps.

Thanks for jumping in, Bdevil. There are plenty of people who use Macs. You may find that some applications are a bit tricky, but it seems like the Mac people get by just fine.

So its official now....my request for scholarship re-consideration has been turned down :boom

I think I'll have to make some big bucks when I visit Vegas before school (not completely sure which one yet) starts....this fall....Any suggestions :lol: ?
