I imagine they are taking a pretty no-nonsense approach. Screening for red flags and singling out the blue chips and obvious leaders pretty quickly.

Even if they are, that leaves a huge swath of the middle ground to cover.

GAH! Sitting at the edge of my seat. Any word on what time of day they release the invites? What percentage of invites they send out the first day?

HBS INTERVIEW FLASH FR. THE PALACEOctober 14th, 2010
HBS INTERVIEW FLASH FROM THE PALACE:

https://www.hbs.edu/mba/admissions/blog.html

SOME NOTES ON DEE'S POST TODAY ABOUT INVITES:

1. 800 INTERVIEWS IS PERFECTLY NORMAL–

2. HER CLAIM THAT THEY WILL BE SENDING OUT INVITES ACROSS THE WINDOW FROM 10/15-11/1 IS HARD TO INTERPRET, SHE ALWAYS SAYS THAT, WHEN IT WAS TRUE-ISH OR NOT. AS A RULE, JUDGING FR. PAST CASES, MORE OF THOSE INVITES WILL BE IN FIRST HALF OF WINDOW. BUT THIS YEAR IS NEW IN THAT WINDOW SHUTS DOWN SO SOON, SO INVITE FLOW COULD MORE LESS FRONT ENDED. THEY MAY BE STILL READING APPS, ETC. AND DECIDING EVEN AS THE PARADE BEGINS. KEEP POSTED HERE AS THE RESULTS COME IN.

Round One Interview Invitations
Date: October 14, 2010

Just so you know, I always wonder whether my comments here alleviate or create anxiety. This update may sound quite stern and rather chilly. That’s not how I mean it, but I want to be very (very) clear.

We will begin to send out interview invitations by email tomorrow, October 15. The invitation will provide detailed instructions about the sign-up process.

Please note: We will continue to send out invitations until November 3. Really. And not just a few - we plan to interview about 800 people in Round 1, and we will send out interview invitations on a rolling basis as applications are reviewed. We will continue to add slots in many locations as we send out more interviews, and there is ALWAYS the option to come to campus.

If you call and ask us if we can expedite the consideration of your application so that you can make travel plans, the answer will be “Sorry, no.”

Another important note: Please don’t send in additional materials or have others do so on your behalf. Even if we thought that was fair, we can’t be adding things to files at this point.

Warmly,

Dee

just a question to calm the anxiety, do you think they follow some kind of logic to send the invitations depending on the location of each candidate?

For example, if they have already reviewed half of the applications and from them they have decided to interview a guy from city X (international) but they don't know yet if they will be visiting that city (depending on the number of candidates to interview from X) so they prefer to wait to review all the applications to see if there are more people from city X to make the decision to go to X or do the interview by phone.

If so, they may wait to send the invitations for these guys until the end right? I think I'm trying to cheer myself up in case I don't get an invitation this weekend :)

PS: are you guys checking your email every 5 minutes? I know in the US is still night, but here is October 15th for more than 16 hours...

Talking of anxiety, there was some guy last year at BW who posted (always a day in advance) that he had got an interview invite to interview at H/S/W. Drove everyone up the wall and was finally banned (I think).

Imagine someone telling you yesterday that the he had an interview invite! And last year, H did not send 'rolling' invites either..

I'm fairly confident they know where they're visiting already, rid. When you get an invitation to interview, I believe it lists all the possible interview locations that you can choose from.

Look at the email from last year: calling-all-hbs-fall-2010-candidates-78704-200.html#p639823

(I was about to copy and paste that as a quote, but then i realized people would see it and misinterpret it and totally freak out)

I say circa 3,500 - 4,000.
So about 20% will get invited for interviews.. Do you know what the conversion rate is among the 800 interviewed?? Guess I'm thinking too far ahead
