FROM The Nanyang MBA Blog: The Power of the Crowd – Guest Lecture by Stefan Lindegaard
Submitted by Anggono Natalnugroho, Co-Chair of the Marketing & Entrepreneurship Club

On 10 Dec 2014, the Marketing & Entrepreneurship Club invited Stefan Lindegaard, a Copenhagen-based innovation expert, to give brief a lecture on crowdsourcing — tapping the knowledge, opinions, and ideas of the crowd to help innovation inside established companies.

In this talk, Stefan Lindegaard provided history lessons, a present overview and future predictions on the benefits and challenges that come with crowdsourcing.

The topics included:

  • The early hype, status today and future directions
  • Crowdwork, crowd-innovation and crowdfunding
  • Examples of companies leveraging the crowd to solve tough challenges and pursue new opportunities
  • The motivation factor (why people participate and why companies do it)
  • How companies can use social media to improve their innovation capability
At the end of session, Stefan gave tips on how to optimise the usage of Twitter and Linkedln for MBA participants.

An Evening of Cricket [#permalink]

FROM The Nanyang MBA Blog: An Evening of Cricket
Submitted by Dilina Fernando

On the evening of 17th May 2015, we headed out to the SRC to learn and play a game of cricket. There were 18 people on the ground, yet only four of us had played cricket before.

The session was started by Aditya, Vivek and Dilina who gave a background on how the game is played. Thereafter, they demonstrated by playing a few practice overs. Being MBA students, the others were quick to learn the game and alluded the game’s similarity to baseball. An outsider probably would have found it difficult to figure out which game we were playing!

After the initial introduction, the players were divided into two teams. The team led by Aditya batted first, scoring 49 runs in the first game of 6 overs. The target was chased down by Vivek’s team easily with the help of Man of the Match, Cory, who played a winning knock even though he was playing cricket for the first time. As it was getting dark, we decided to play one more match and end the session.

Image

A few highlights of the match were Vivek getting bowled out by Lasha, Dilina getting bowled out by Angga, Cory and Aditya raining sixes all over the park, Bhrigu shamelessly appealing every decision, Tobias fielding like Jonty Rhodes, Franco running between the wickets like Arjuna Ranatunga and Mathew swinging his bat like a baseball pro.

After the tiring session everyone headed to Spruce for a well-deserved glass of beer and snacks. All in all it was great evening of learning and fun.

Thank You everyone for being such a Sport and enjoying the game of cricket with the other MBA folks.

FROM The Nanyang MBA Blog: MBA World Summit
Submitted by Bhrigu Vasisht

MBA student Bhrigu Vasisht from Nanyang Business School, Nanyang technological University (NTU) was selected as one of the top 100 most inspiring MBA students worldwide. The MBA World Summit took place at IESE Business School in Barcelona from 25 – 27 March 2015.

Bhrigu Vasisht, who is in NBS Full-time MBA Class of 2015, was chosen as one of the 100 most inspiring MBA students worldwide out of 3,000 MBA applications from around the globe. The rigorous selection process required an essay followed by a video interview. The selected MBA students travelled to Barcelona to meet top executives from carefully selected companies to develop life-long networks and learn about some of the challenges that contemporary businesses face, and as future business leaders, how the MBA students can gear up for them.

The event spanned across 3 days and 2 nights in which the first evening was a light networking session over drinks. The 2nd day was dedicated to participant-led workshops as well as parallel sessions with the top executives of the companies.

The fun part kicked in on the 3rd day when participants went on a cultural expedition followed by a light lunch and a relaxing networking session at the beach club.

Overall, this was quite a unique and special experience which helped Bhrigu grow as a future professional and it has provided him with the opportunity to represent NBS at such an exclusive global event.
