Round 2 applicant from India. Have not heard yet from the school. Is it all over now or there still hopes?

According to Soojin's blog, all R2 invitations have been sent out. Make sure you check your junk email folder, nothing in my application status changed when I received the invite. It was linked through a separate website.

For those who are interested, Ross just named its new dean. Email from Provost Phil Hanlon follows.

Quote:
Dear Ross School student,

In review and discussion with the Board of Regents’ Personnel, Compensation and Governance Committee, and pending Regents’ approval, President Mary Sue Coleman and I are pleased to announce the appointment of Alison Davis-Blake as the next Edward J. Frey Dean at the Stephen M. Ross School Business, effective August 22, 2011. She will also be appointed Professor of Management and Organizations.

Since 2006 Dr. Davis-Blake has been dean of the Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota. The Carlson School has thrived under her leadership through major expansions in facilities and undergraduate enrollments, revamping of undergraduate and MBA curricula, development of innovative cross-college degree programs and notable success in fundraising and development activities.

In 1990, Dr. Davis-Blake joined the Graduate School of Business at the University of Texas at Austin, later named the McCombs School of Business, as an assistant professor of management. She rose through the ranks to become chair of the Department of Management from 2002-2003 and senior associate dean for academic affairs from 2003-2006. In 1995 she was named the Eleanor T. Mosle Fellow and in 2004, the Eddy C. Scurlock Centennial Professor of Management. In 1995, she co-founded the executive master’s degree in human resource development leadership at the McCombs School and continued to co-direct it until 2001. Prior to her time at the University of Texas, Dr. Davis-Blake was an assistant professor of industrial administration at Carnegie Mellon University.

Dr. Davis-Blake received both a B.S. degree in economics, summa cum laude with highest honors, in 1979, and a M.O.B. degree in organizational behavior in 1982 from Brigham Young University. She received a Ph.D. degree in organizational behavior from Stanford University in 1986.

The focus of Alison Davis-Blake’s research, teaching and consulting is human resources strategy. She is an expert in outsourcing arrangements and organizational employment practices such as the use of temporary and contract workers and the design of organizational salary structures. Her professional service includes editorial positions with both the Academy of Management Review and Administrative Science Quarterly.

The Ross School of Business is a source of great pride for the University of Michigan. With the recent Ross naming gift the School has been transformed to a new level under the leadership of Dean Bob Dolan. The world-class facilities provide state of the art classrooms and meeting spaces for its excellent faculty and students. The Ross School’s distinctive action-based learning approach to the MBA program serves as a model for other top business schools.

Dr. Davis-Blake brings to the University of Michigan’s Ross School the experience and intellect to lead the School’s community to a shared vision building on the School’s success. Her passion will help steer faculty, students, and staff along their charted course to achieving that vision.

President Coleman and I are extremely pleased that Alison Davis-Blake is assuming the helm of the Stephen M. Ross School of Business at this time of dramatic change within business education and practice. We are confident that she will provide outstanding leadership for the Ross School, increasing its international presence as well as delivering innovative education for our graduates who will work in a global economy. We expect she will build on the School’s reputation of excellence to enhance its connections within the University and the larger community.

I would like to take this opportunity to express my appreciation to Gerald F. Davis, who chaired the search advisory committee, and to the committee members for their outstanding service.

For those of you who wish to congratulate Dr. Davis-Blake, her email address is [email protected]. There will also be an opportunity for faculty, staff and students to meet Dr. Davis-Blake at a reception on Tuesday, February 15 from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. in the Davidson Winter Garden. If you need any additional information, please let me know.

Yours truly,

Phil Hanlon
Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs

Hi,
I am R2 applicant and recently had my off-campus interview with an alumni. Interview was interesting and quite conversational and alumni shared some great insight about Ross alumni chapter in India.

Guys, I wanted to know by what time can I expect the final result?

Hey guys,
Just completed my interview with an alum, was very casual, and we spent alot of time chatting about his MBA experience at ross.
Main questions:
1. Walk me through your resume
2. Why Ross
3. Why an MBA now
4. Describe your key learnings in the last (4) years of your experience
5.Short and long term goals
6. I expressed my interest in strategy so he asked me to describe a strategy ive seen in m current job profile
7 we talked about returning to India and working in India
8. My experience working in a team...what would I do if I was in a team with alot of strong personalities
9. Describe how you turned around a difficult team experience.
10.Talked about highlights in my resume
11. Why I wanted to stay in pharma/healthcare, touched on various subjects within the pharma industry exchanging ideas.

All in all it was pretty informal. My advice be yourself, talk about your networking efforts and how much trouble you took to learn about the school.

So wishing everyone good luck in their interviews.

Thanks,
Ventivish

Hey all,

I don't believe I've checked in here yet, but please add me to the roll call as a R2 interview. Just had my off-campus alumni interview this evening. It lasted about 30-35 minutes, and the questions were pretty much the same as the ones people have been listing / the ones you can find on the clear admit wiki. I think the one that I'm most glad I prepared for in advance was "what is your biggest professional achievement, and what is your biggest personal achievement."

It sounds like the interviews conducted on-campus are more laid back. I wonder if this means it's better to make the extra effort to go on campus and do the interview there.

Don't get lulled into thinking that. The Ross blog last Fall mentioned something about applicants not taking the interviews with current students seriously enough. I'm not saying that to make you nervous, just to make you understand the importance of treating it professionally.

Personally, I'd like to be interviewed on campus. You have a set time limit (30 minutes), will get AdCom approved questions, get to talk with someone actually in the current program, and get to show your interest in the program. That said, I actually enjoyed all of my interviews. I was well prepared and made sure to remember that about half of the interviewees will be admitted vice one of X for a typical job.

I just wanted to say I agree with this on all fronts... I made the mistake at Tuck (my first ever interview) of being too relaxed with a student interviewer.

Also on campus is 100% the way to go if you can afford the time. The school likes it and there is no better way to ensure that you would thrive at a given school.

the final decision will be posted on the decision day. however, ross does personally call/ email the admitted students a few days before the deadline to congratulate them on their admission. be posted on this thread to find out when the calls begin. coz people will start writing on this forum if they get the call....

All the best...the final wait is the toughest...i can totally understand...

Looks like we had the same interviewer at Bangalore. My interviewer probed my interest in Strategy and asked several questions on what that actually means practically. Congratulations on your interview. However, I think you are in a better position that I am. I was WL'd in R1 and invited to interview in R2. So I dont know how much hope I should have.

My interview was a blind one. He just had access to the resume. I think it is the same with all who have interviewed at Ross.

Had my alumni interview last night...very relaxed, lasted about an hour. Half of the time was spent with the normal questions why MBA, why Ross, leadership; the other half was spent discussing her experience at Ross. It was good timing with the announcement of the new dean as I was able to ask a couple questions about the direction she thinks Ross is heading.

Three more weeks until decisions!!

Is there a way to find out whether my off campus interviewer has submitted his feedback to Ross? I have a feeling he is too busy at work so I want to make sure it is done timely.

No, there isn't a way to find out, but your interviewer's speed isn't a reflection on you.
