This blog post is part of our "Application Insider" blog post series that provides insider information, tips, and advice about applying to the UCLA Anderson MBA program.
APPLICATION INSIDER TOPIC: AFTER YOU SUBMIT YOU APPLICATION
Now that you've submitted your application, one of the most difficult parts of the application process begins... the waiting. Although the time between submitting your application and receiving a decision can be stressful, there are plenty of ways to keep busy while learning more about our program and student community.
For those of you who live in the Los Angeles area or have the option of visiting campus, we welcome you to take advantage of the on-campus events offered through our Campus Experience. By participating in a Campus Experience, you can participate in a class visit, school tour, information session, coffee chat and/or lunch with a student (available options are dependent on the date of your visit). If you are able to visit campus, we would also recommend that you reach out to some of our students ahead of time to let them know of your scheduled visit. If you want to learn more about a particular club, you can email club officers by visiting their club page. You can find our full list of club listings on our Clubs and Associations page.
If you are unable to visit campus, there are still several ways for you to learn more about our program and students. As mentioned above, you can email students from a particular club to learn more about their experiences in the program by visiting our Clubs and Associations page. You can also begin a conversation with a student via our Connect with a Student option. The Connect with a Student option allows you to submit a question of your choosing to our student community. A member of our Admissions Ambassador Corps (AAC) will connect you with a student who can best respond to your question. We also offer admissions webinars and LiveGuide sessions via our online admissions events. LiveGuide sessions are a great way to learn about a particular students MBA experience through their first-hand account.
Why is it important to still continue to learn about our program? By taking advantage of all of the above-mentioned opportunities to learn more about our program, it may help you be better prepared for our interview if you are invited (interview invitations are still currently being sent out!). Further, going to business school is a big commitment, so it's best if you're as fully informed as possible about how you could potentially be spending the next two years!
In addition to all of the above, also make sure to give yourself a chance to take a break, relax, have dinner with your friends, and congratulate yourself on finishing a very important milestone on your journey of personal and career growth!

APPLICATION INSIDER TOPIC: ROUND 2 STATUS UPDATE
Our evaluations of Round 2 applications are proceeding rapidly, and interview invitations continue to flow out. February and March will be our busiest months of the season, as our admissions officers keep reading applications and our distinguished student Admissions Ambassador Corps conducts hundreds of interviews. As in prior years, we anticipate releasing some admissions notifications in batches on a rolling basis as those decisions get finalized. All decisions will be released on or before our final Round 2 decision date of March 29, 2017.
As a friendly reminder, applicants should note that we do our initial evaluation based on self-reported test scores and transcripts. Only if you are invited to an interview should you arrange to have official test scores and transcripts sent to us.
If you are invited to an interview, you can always benefit from polishing your story and learning more about UCLA Anderson ahead of time in preparation for the interview. Our website and this blog, as well as our Campus Experience program, are great resources for you to continue to explore our program.
We are always available whenever you need information or help!

Our admitted students from Round 1 are invited each year to attend Admit Preview Day (APD) here on the UCLA Anderson campus. This past weekend, admits traveled from across the U.S. (and some even from other countries!) to meet future classmates and learn more about the UCLA Anderson experience. Some pre-APD activities included attending the 2017 Anderson Women's Leadership Summit, industry coffee chats with students, and 1-on-1 advising sessions with the Parker Career Management Center. Official programming kicked off early Saturday that allowed admits an inside look into student clubs on campus, faculty spotlights and career panels featuring current students and alums.
We are particularly thankful to our alums who came to share their advice and success stories to the Class of 2019 during the APD Anderson Alumni Panel. Whether you were unable to attend the event, want a refresher on what you learned, or just want to get to know our Anderson community, read the below to learn about some of our amazing alumni!
Gabe Chua ('07)
Current Role: Marketing Director, Marketing Strategy & Development, Nestlé
Pre-MBA: Adobe
Undergrad: Carnegie Mellon University
"I've been out of Anderson for about 10 years. I've been fortunate to build my career at Nestlé. If you look at a lot of Anderson people and the companies they're in, you'll see that they're in leadership positions. You can network with these folks while you're in school, and it's a meaningful network that will last throughout your career. Whether it be to exchange ideas, look for future positions, they're pretty influential people who can make a difference."
Nathan True-Daniels ('12)
Current Role: Vice President, Barclays Investment Bank
Pre-MBA: UBS Financial Services
Undergrad: Vanderbilt University
"The most important thing for business school is to constantly challenge yourself to not just skate by. There are so many incredible classes here to take, so many great people to meet and so many great things beginning. I have classmates who started a solar company with robots that would clean the dust off of solar panels, Greenbotics. They ended up being acquired a year after graduation. The people, the opportunity, the fact that you're in the middle of Los Angeles just yields so many opportunities for you to challenge yourself and grow."
Suzy Crawford ('15)
Current Role: Senior Account Manager, Media & Entertainment, Google
Pre-MBA: Double Positive Marketing Group
Undergrad: University of Arizona
"I looked at the companies that recruited at Anderson for digital marketing and for tech. I reached out to alums at Google and other companies to understand how their MBAs helped them to get their role. That's when I knew that Anderson was definitely the place that would help me get to my next career. I also didn't just take marketing classes. Taking finance classes was huge. It allows me to go into my job now and give a really different strategic point of view."
Shannon Kung ('15)
Current Role: Franchise Operations Manager, Disney
Pre-MBA: Lieberman Research Worldwide
Undergrad: UCLA
"If anyone is interested in the entertainment industry, you wouldn't go anywhere else. Entertainment is that one industry where networking is the most important thing. It's cool if you're an Excel ninja and can talk about vlookups all day but if you can't network and get buy-in, you're not going to succeed. It's a lot easier to be in Los Angeles and go talk to the people who work at the studios and also come to speak at our classes."
Jonathan Murphy ('16)
Current Role: Consultant, Boston Consulting Group
Pre-MBA: AlphaSights and US Army
Undergrad: University of Notre Dame
"I don't think people realize how influential and how much buy-in you get from second year students really prepping you for interviews for your internships or helping you make connections at companies where they had interned. Then, you get young alumni, people like myself, who are on the Anderson recruiting team at BCG. I think there is a HUGE amount of investment that we put into going back to our school, and that stems back to the amount of investment that the people ahead of us put into us."

This post is part of a “From the Dean’s Desk” series, where we hear directly from our UCLA Anderson leaders across the school.
Today’s post is from Alex Lawrence, Assistant Dean & Director of Admissions for the Full-Time MBA Program. Alex is a UCLA Anderson MBA alum (Class of 1999), spending his post-MBA career working in Management Consulting prior to returning to UCLA Anderson, where he served as the Executive Director of The Riordan Program prior to joining the Admissions team.
The process of applying to graduate business school has many important steps – taking the GMAT® exam, writing essays, securing letters of recommendation, visiting campuses, among others. One often overlooked resource to consider is the alumni community. Alumni can provide information that you are seeking and in some cases, information that you may not have considered before.
Below are my top 5 reasons why you should connect with alumni during your application process.
Experience the school culture. Each school has its own culture and climate. Speaking with alumni allows you to experience that culture first hand. You can also ask what type of people attend the school (bankers, consultants, marketers, teachers). Ask if it is a competitive environment, do people support each other, is diversity and inclusion valued at the school, etc.
Get advice on best way to visit campus /see program in full action. Alumni can provide great advice on how to structure your visit, how to contact faculty, meet with students, possibly sit in on a class, etc.
Gain insights into career options and opportunities. One of the top reasons you are going to business school is to advance your career. Alumni are great resources to understand the impact of the school's career management center on his/her career, what companies recruit/hire students at that school, learn about the career outcomes of other alumni.
Provide a window into specific experiences. Business school is not just about taking classes. It is a wonderful way to test your limits and get out of your comfort zone. Alumni can provide a "window" into specific experiences for consideration - favorite courses, school faculty, classmates, global experiences, signature conferences, academic internships, community service, etc.
Get answers to the "I didn't know what I didn't know" questions. Alumni can provide information that's otherwise hard to find, such as answers to questions about financing your MBA and learning about pre-MBA internship opportunities.
At UCLA Anderson, alumni participate in a variety of capacities to help prospects understand the power of the UCLA Anderson MBA. Many alumni host lunch events, inviting prospects to join and learn about the school. Others meet one-on-one within their own firm for a coffee chat, and then more participate in school sponsored events (e.g. recruiting events on the road) to provide their voice on why they chose Anderson.
