I think it would depend on whether you think you could do better. If you think you can, I suggest you wait. If you're on the edge, give your essays to someone completely new (preferably someone with bschool experience) and see what their thoughts are. If it's "eh"you can do better," then by all means, wait. But if it's "WOW" then submit :) It really is intuition though. Go with what your gut tells you. The rest will fall into place.

Submitted Wharton just now, fingers crossed :-)
That concludes R1 for me. Hope I won't need to do any for R2!

Did anyone use the optional essay to write about why they chose their recommenders?

I didn't use my current recommenders because of my employment situation.

How long does the optional essay need to be?

bigfernhead, I don't think you need to use current direct supervisors. I saw under recommendations in s2s forums that they're just asking for someone who has an understanding of your work experience.

You may want to ask on the s2s forums but I'm pretty positive they don't require current direct supervisors. https://engage.wharton.upenn.edu/MBA/for ... ns=0:1:11::

I'm debating a delay to Round 2 ... not crazy about my essays. Anyone else in the same boat? I've been reading "Round 1 vs Round 2" articles/posts for the last 30 minutes.

I'm jumping to Rd. 2 on account of GMAT - I'm not entering the fight without a 700. As far as the conspiracy theories for round 1 vs. round 2..... I've always felt Round 1 was marginally better, although I am giving new creedence to the "I'm competing against slackers" theory about round 2. That's the power of wishful thinking......

Good luck with the essays!

I'm about to paste my essay into the app for Round 1 and I was wondering if Wharton had any specifications for margin and font size. I couldn't find any specifics about them in the application instructions, but I just wanted to check with you guys to make sure. Thanks!

Just submitted Wharton... I was surprised that when you preview the application it displays the failure essay first, then the others. I had thought the goals essay would lead off. Oh well, I guess it doesn't really matter either way. Anyhow, good luck wrapping up R1. Now it's time to turn my attention back to Stanford.

Also, I don't think the fonts really matter. Assuming you wrote in Word, it looks like it just uploads the exact word document as is, and inserts some headers with your application code, etc. I'm actually beginning to wonder if word count is even enforced??

Thanks! Does it matter if the essays are single or double spaced?

Not sure if it matters... but I double spaced mine and it showed up fine. I tend to think double spacing is a little easier on the reader.

Just clicked "Submit"... I am so relieved! :-D

Now the waiting game begins... Anyone care to speculate when Wharton will send out its first round of interview invitations?

Good luck all!

I think we should hear about interviews 1st week of Nov onwards. :)
I too noticed about the failure as 1st question- I think may be Wharton is giving more importance to this essay than the rest? May be see if the applicant can really reflect on his/her failure w/o sugar coating it...and if not then probably that's like a big negative....
just speculating!

You might have already made your decision, but here's how I'm approaching a possible deferral to R2. Do you think your essays read smoothly and fully answer the question by using a central theme(s)? If so, then I wouldn't sweat the diction and syntax stuff. On the other hand, if you feel that a complete overhaul of more than one essay is in order, then delaying might make sense.

It's official, I'm shifting to R2 - I'm going with my instinct on this one. Best of luck to the rest of you in R1.

Going with your gut is usually a good idea, good luck with the revisions for Round 2. I'm giving myself a few more hours today to decide whether to send the runner home or hold him at third base, to use a baseball analogy.
