Last year was a mess. As far as I know, no one got off the list. The reason was that last years yield was higher than normal and the school found itself approximately 40 students over target - I think 590 something total. That may not sound too bad in % terms, but it was a real problem -- e.g. there aren't 40 extra lockers on campus, so temporary locker space had to be built.

By last year, do you mean the class that matriculated in Fall 2008, or the class that matriculated just now in Fall 2009?

Those that just joined now.

It would be curious to know if they planned this years class utilizing a historical average yield or last years figure. As you might imagine, it could make a big difference. If they planned using the higher than normal figure and they experience a more normal yield this year, then, in that case, your odds of getting off the wait list are exceptionally good (at least, as compared to an average year). If, of course, the inverse is the case, we would have a repeat of last year. There's also the other combinations of outcomes as well.

Your guess is as good as mine.

Thanks rhyme for articulating what many of us are thinking. Judging from the number of admits vs. waitlists here, it does seem possible that they planned for a very high yield again. If a lot of the R1 admits end up going elsewhere instead, that could be good news for us waitlisters.

Congrats to all admits!!

To folks who were denied.... I know how it feels, especially after being denied by Stanford after interviews, twice in a row...... it can be pretty depressing

But the best way to deal with it is to start working on R2 apps...

That said, I have a question for Rhyme and other Booth students

Does Booth have a parallel to Wharton's International Volunteers Propgram (WIVP)? Something different from 'Random Walk' in which students visit other countries to have a fun time!! Something that is focused on community service? Something that might not need you to study abroad like the IBEP has to offer?

Thanks in advance

Booth has been very generous to admits financially...I have heard figures like 35k, 60k and 80k but they have all been from US citizens/permanent residents. Any idea if international students have been awarded generously as well??

I definitely got $0 and fit that bill (US citizen).

Could have made the Booth/HBS decision quite a bit more difficult.

Still would be interested to get a better picture of why certain applicants got it.

International with $0... Agree with PBateman...at least it will keep my decision (if I end up having any) honest since I love Booth but I might end up going somewhere else...

People who got Money during the call got Named Scholarships that were based on your application only. That doesn't mean there aren't other scholarhips available. You should take a look about all the other scholarships offers available and apply to see what the final cost would be.

I've started a thread for admitted applicants in the b-school life forum, just like the last year applicants did.

Hi
I need a little help with filling the application. What would be the industry for someone who works in software companies such as IBM or Google or HP. There are four options: 1) software/printing/publishing and 2)Communications/Information Technology, 3)Computer related services, 4)Computers/cons/Elec. I am writing option 1 that is software/printing/publishing but I am not sure why they added printing and publishing in the same group. Thanks in advance.
