I mean, they could actually be transparent and tell us how they decide the order for interview invites and the number they expect to send out each day. They could tell us the date they expect to pick up our application based on their ordering system. Or if they determined the application is a reject after first view, they could let us know prior to Feb 17.
No they really can't. Here's why. First, they don't decide "an order" for interview invites. The reason is really quite simple: why bother? Why would they have any preference as to which applicant is read in which order - who cares (other than you) whether applicant #309 is read before or after applicant #302? Or if someone with a last name starting with Z is read before someone with a last name starting with A? They go out as they are decided, and there's no way for them to tell you when they expect your application to be read.
The reason they cant possibly do it relates to how applications are read. Lets assume there are two candidates -- one candidate is applicant number #200 and the other is applicant #300. Although each school has its own process, generally speaking, each application is read at least twice (and sometimes three times) prior to a decision on interview being made. Imagine that application #200 is read by two part time readers (who read say, 50 apps a week) while application #300 is read by two full time readers (who read say, 100 a week) -- it's easy to see how #300 might be 'complete' before #200.
Finally, would you really want them to reject you after just a first view? What if, after reviewing other candidates, they determined that perhaps you would be more suited for a waitlist, or perhaps even an interview after all?
