i got a second interview invite too! First i read the "Congratulations! We have evaluated your application" part - i thought it was too good to be true... then i read the rest and almost got a heart attack! I mean - i'm holidaying on a semi-deserted island (i was 'lucky' to be checking my mail just before they sent a disclaimer).
Anyway, please add me to the roll call for R2. I had an interview a week ago or so.

Well robertrdzak, I wish my interviewer probed about post mba career goals. My interviewer was more interested in knowing what will I do if I don't get into Chicago and even any other MBA school. I was worried if she was trying to prep me up for the possible outcome :)

I'll be there britguy. Actually really excited about it since I just wrapped up the rest of my interviews for R2 and looking forward to celebrating the end of the process.

Through the Admit events, I've actually started to become friends with some of other NYC admits and they all seem normal/fun. Will you be heading over as well?

britguy
good point tdave but then you'd freak out if you weren't one of the lucky ones to get an early call! at least this way you know the only reason you haven't been called is because noone has. hang in there!

any R1 admits still hanging around this forum? just wondering if any gmatclubbers are planning on attending admit weekend?

I think she was just probing to see how resourceful / determined you are to accomplish your goals.

I've seen Alumni interviews can really be all over the place!

My first thought when you said that was that the interviewer was testing the "why MBA now" question. If you answered with something like "I'd be just fine!" then one can question whether you truly need an MBA (and now).

i was looking at number of applicants on gmatclub and became surprised by the number of applications for R2.

previosuly, i thought that interviewed applicants had 50% of getting admitted, but now considering the number of interviewed (50/107), do you people still think we've got 50% chance?

or is booth interviewing 50% of applicants, but admittance rate would be lower to match the class size of 550?

any idea?

It is mad early for me to be messing with numbers without any caffeine -- it is a scientific fact that Saturdays are for sleeping in late -- but here's how I approach your question.

According to Business Week's profile, Booth gets close to 4,000 applicants each year. I don't have numbers for how many interview invitations are released, but I do recall reading somewhere that the yield of accepted students is around 60%. For a class size of 550, this means about 900 students are accepted. (I have also read that overall selectivity is a bit over 20%, so: again, close to 900 accepted.)

So it IS conceivable that your observation of GMAT Club's stats is accurate: 50% of about 4000 applicants get interviews = 2000 interviewed. Then 50% of 2000 get accepted = 1000 accepted. Then 60% actually matriculated = 600 students in the new class. Not so far off, right?

That said, I suspect GMAT Club's success rate is higher than average (just look how well we're doing at other schools at which it is notoriously difficult to score interviews or acceptances). So the number of interviewed applicants is probably actually lower than 50%, which means that the chances of getting in after interview are probably a bit higher than 50%.

Just my take.

For whatever it's worth, when I visited the students casually mentioned that the yield had been "surprisingly high" for the class of 2011 and they had admitted too many students resulting in a large class. They also said that they were going to try and bring that back down for 2012. Yay.

Although I'm all for optimism and being positive, I'm still confused on why this is a "Yay"?

And great stats, Aenigma. Today is interview D-day for me. Wishing all the others the best.

Just came back from my on-campus interview. What a ball! I met Karen and she told me that they are going to interview 120 applicants this weekend. Best to all of you!

I suspect shana22's "Yay" was sarcastic. I'd guess most of us want higher admission rates as applicants -- and lower rates as students. Ah well.

Good luck at your interview, gkumar! I had mine last night in NYC and, due to the treacherous slush-flooded streets, spent the entirety of my interview in a suit and shiny rubber boots.

This is not recommended.

Don't worry Aenigma! I am sure you shone brightly and charmed the interviewer from not only your shiny boots, but also your awesome interview answers! 8-)

Mine went very well I thought, but I dare not get my hopes up. I was interviewed by an alumni involved with the admissions committee rather than a second-year student. I was able to connect to my interviewer on three points: she knew about rhyme personally and the class he recommended that I sat in, the volunteer organization since her employer and the organization recently formed a partnership, and the Booth conference that I attended for work.

The only problem is that she seemed to be very good in poker or acting, leaving me in awe of her awesome poker face. Nevertheless, I'm doing my good luck dance and keeping my fingers crossed!

Thanks, gkumar, and congrats on what sounds like a great interview!

I'm actually not convinced that mine went well. I didn't crash and burn but I'd been sick all day so I was not nearly as sharp or polished as I like to think I normally can be, and I definitely embarrassed myself with a slip of the tongue error about a current event. But -- no matter! The interview's just one piece of the whole shebang and maybe my shiny rainboots distracted him. That's why I propped my legs up on the table, after all. Anyway, alea iacta est. C'est la guerre. Que sera sera. Ecce Romani.

Et cetera.
