Hello Everyone,
As per grammar rule, an Independent clause should be followed by comma+BUT.
Then, is the below sentence wrong? Here, a Dependent clause follows BUT.
Sentence: Sam failed in the exam, but did not lose hope.
I have my GMAT exam in the next 15 hours. Hence, your quick response here will help me hugely.

IMO This is correct.
Better would be
Sentence: Sam failed in the exam, but he did not lose hope.

Hey,
If you are using 'but' before dependent clause then there is no COMMA.
So the sentence would be : Sam failed in the exam but did not lose hope.
