I just took the GMAT last week and scored a 740. While I’m fairly happy with that score, I’d already set up another test date as slots were filling up fast. I’m planning on retaking because I’ll be applying to top 10 programs in a couple years and I don’t know how competitive GMAT scores will be at that point. I also need to make up for a less than stellar academic record. But my question is can a marginal improvement make my application look bad?
For example, if I scored a 750 on my retake, would that be worth reporting? Or would they question my judgement because I already had a fairly high score and didn’t change much. Is it possible for a higher retake score (even if just slightly) to hurt your admission chances?
Also, if I retake and get the same or lower score and I cancel them, will it show up anywhere in my application?
Thank you!!
