Hello,
I've a very specific question. I've passed CFA Level 2 and I'm currently working as an equity research analyst but looking to switch to Consulting post-MBA. Do you think mentioning CFA Level 2 on my application can have negative implications? Do you think it would make more sense to the admission committee if I stick to finance career post-MBA since I have done CFA Level 2?

Hi there,
I wouldn't feel it will hurt your application, no.... it is a strength in your background and a measurable achievement to complete... and certainly finance skills are relevant in b-school.
In terms of your overall explanation of your goals etc, no matter what it's important to clearly explain your choices, your goals and rationale for b-school and for the specific school itself, and to show that your plan is well thought-out and that you know how your past experiences will help you in your future goals....just keep that in mind as you craft your story.

Thanks for your reply Jen. I have not closed the doors to a career in finance entirely, in fact I quite like asset management. Its just that I'm leaned towards consulting a little bit more. Do you think for now its better to stick to finance story, especially keeping in mind why my CFA credentials, rather than taking a new path (consulting) altogether? I have often read that 2 years of MBA give you enough time to self-reflect and change careers if you want. For now I want my application to be as robust as possible. What do you say?
