From saturday morning, I have been trying hard to find 3 continuous hours. Finally, on Sunday evening decided to take MGMAT 2. As it was too late in the evening, I couldn't go to library. I was forced to take the test at home. I was disturbed twice when I was doing the quant. First time, I paused the test for 2 mins. Then I let the last question slip while I was talking to my mom.

MGMAT CAT2 - 650 Q41 V38

My PS (32% while DS is 67%) is great danger if i don't rescue it sooner. Not sure whether I should feel happy about the verbal as most of the test takers here are saying verbal in real exam is tougher.

I have not analyzed both my MGMAT CATs thoroughly. Before I take the next CAT on 10/02/2010, I need to complete analyzing them. I am yet to complete the last mgmat quant guide. I want to work on the word problems by Veritas next.

Please let me know your suggestions in improving my quant. Thank you.

I still have 2 advanced chapters left out in mgmat VIC guide. But planning to work on the word problems by veritas, so that I could see some improvement in my quant score before taking a mock test tomorrow.

I am happy to have WON the gmat club challenges. Now, I can use them for identifying my weaknesses. I am planning to work on grockit questions also as that has helped few people in increasing their quant score.

If I spend enough efforts and follow all Bunuel's posts, i can surely reach 50 in quant.

How did you get on with your test yesterday?

I'm on the same boat as you to reach Q50. Keep the good work up!

PadawanOfTheGMAT,
I changed my test date to next Saturday. But I never have to re-login to mgmat while doing the test in the past two tests.

I started hitting hard on the veritas combinatorics book. I find it more easier than mgmat book on the same topic. May be veritas book teaches the same concept the way I studied in my high school. I am ready to review the probability questions from mgmat1 and mgmat2 now. I can even work on Bunuel's probability questions document before this Saturday’s mock test.

I studied few pages of word problems from veritas. Those questions were time consuming for me. I took nearly one hour to learn seven questions. So I started deviating a little bit before I go back and tackle that book again.

I finally reviewed my sc section of mgmat test1 and test2. Verb tense - seems to be major problem. When I attempted for the second time also, I made the same mistake. There is no clarity whether to use past tense, past continuos or present continuos. When I read the missed pronoun error question, I have ignored the pronoun, which was given in the non-underlined portion after the underlined portion. I feel I have got some scope for improvement in sc.

I started reading the opinion column of WSJ during lunch break. Hopefully, reading helps in improving the speed on rc.

I am half way through the veritas probability book. I started enjoying those questions. In quant, I need to work on averages, statistics and word problems.

Yeah WSJ will definitely help you. Their columns are packed with a lot of info and they like to use complicated syntax.

I took the 3rd MGMAT today. While doing the test, I was thinking I am going to score a 580 as I didn't have time for the last 7 questions in quant. I was trying to be extra alert while doing verbal as I felt I didn't do quant well. The score was 680 Q44 V37. I need to analyze the results tomorrow. Somehow I have to bring quant score to 49 and increase verbal score 3 more points.

Good job Dreamy! On MGMAT3 I only scored 650! And you are right, in order to score 700+ consistently, one must be able to score a solid 40 in Verbal.

psychomath: Are you good in CR? I find that being good in CR helps a lot for RC. Also MGMAT RC book teaches a few strategy to avoid being trapped. It's worth checking out. Prior to that my CR and RC scores varied too much, now these scores are more constant and fortunately in the higher-end.

You will find my hit rate in the following post. Just by improving RC, I think I will be closer to the score I want. My strategy is to practice more RC questions. I haven't done any RC practice so far. I did to few passages per week. Need to gear up that practice and focus on the weaknesses.

Thanks PadawanOfTheGMAT. I am yet to complete the MGMAT RC book. Need to complete that book by all the practices given in the book. Thanks for letting us know your experience.

Detailed analysis of my MGMAT 3

Verbal

Total wrong answers : 15
Wrong in CR: 7
Wrong in RC: 7
Wrong in SC : 1
I couldn’t believe my eyes, I got only one wrong in SC. How could this happen? I was reading the grammar chapter two times as I didn’t understand when to use prefect tense and when to use past perfect tense. When I looked at grockit practice, I understood, I am having trouble with reported speech questions. Simply memorized what was given in mgmat for that present-past and past to past perfect. Wow! This is amazing. This test has helped me to open my eyes. Focusing on the weaknesses does help to improve the score.

I can improve my CR score with some practice. Most of the mgmat CR questions are not of gmat-prep variety is my feeling. May I am wrong. I need to practice as many questions as possible. Draw a conclusion, Strengthen conclusion and Weaken conclusion seems to be the weakest section in CR. I think I need to re-read powerscore bible and go through all the mgmat questions in depth.

Now, I need to focus on RC as much as possible. I thought I was doing well in inference questions. But the mgmat test seems to point I have to improve a lot in that too. Main idea -33% and Inference question -33%. May be I should take tutoring from someone in gmat club for rc.

Quant

Total wrong answers: 17
PS: 9/22 – 41%
DS: 10/15 – 67%

In Combinatorics, I have got all the questions right. Thanks to veritas book. I am yet to complete the probability questions. I did finish the theory in this section. But I have got one question wrong in probability.

Word translations: 5/10 – 50%
Algebra: 6/8 – 75%
Geometry: 2/5 – 40%
Number properties: 3/7 – 45%
FDP: 3/7 – 43%

Quant analysis seems to show me that I have not really mastered any single section. I want focus on the “Worst” sections from mgmat. The worst sections in quant are Probability, overlapping sets, Rates and Work, basic equations, Polygons, exponents and roots, and fractions and FDP connections.

I want to increase my quant score to the highest possible. I have always been good at math from my school days. Now, gmat seems to tease that skill. I hope I can ignore work for few days just focus on few chapters for quant.

I'm not a big fan of MGMAT CAT for CR. Sometimes the answers only rely on a difference in a single word: most/all/some. Whereas on the real thing there is more logical reasoning to each answer choice.

Your SC score is impressive! I'll work more on that.

After few hours of hard work with quant flash cards, I got the confidence to take the GMAT Club challenge. I am yet to do any analysis on the test. In all MGMAT quant sessions, I need to rush to complete the quant on time. But in gmat club chanllenge, I finished 10 minutes in advance. I need to focus on improving the accuracy.

m01 26/37 45.7%

There is lot to improve if I want to reach 50 in quant.

I took the second GMAT club challenge

m02 28/37 47.1%

I need to analyse my mistakes. While doing the test, I feel I am doing all the questions correctly. Finally, end up scoring much lesser.

Analyzed the M02 -
4 questions were wrong due to careless errors. How can I reduce this on test day?
3 questions were wrong as I did not keep the question in mind.
2 questions were wrong as I did not know 0 power any power is 0. Only remembered 1 and -1.

I want to improve my quant as much as possible. I want to raise my quant score to 50 as I don't have a clear cut way to improve verbal.

- Careless errors require more training, probably slowing down a little and not doing math in your head. Why rush if at the end you make a stupid mistake and fail the problem. Don't worry, you're not alone.

- I like to write down what the question asks me (eg: x/b = ?) . Can you provide an example?

- Hmm, 0^x is zero if x≠0, but if x=0 then 0^0=1. This is controversial and should not be tested on the real GMAT.
