Hi, I'm new to this forum and was hoping you could help...I have attempted to take the GMAT twice now over the last 3 yrs, but both times I did not end up taking the test because work got really busy and I couldn't study. Anyway, I'm determined to take it this time. I took PR 2 yrs ago and still have the books. But this time around, I'm wondering if I should self-study by purchasing new test prep books from Barnes & Nobles and used MGMAT books or if I should enroll in a course for over $1,400. For anyone who's taken the MGMAT course, if I just buy the books from someone will it be as effective as taking the course? I ask because, for me, I feel like I could have taken the PR course with the books only. Thanks to everyone in advance for your replies.

I just took an on-line MGMAT course. I thought it was great! Now, if you can study regularly on your own, you don't need a course. I liked it because it forced me to study. Beware of intense curriculum if you do decide to take the course! You will have to read one book per week and do a lot problems in OG!

depends on the type of person you are. A lot of people are able to study from books without the classes to go with it.

of course! as long as you feel comfortable just studying from books (and a lot of people do) then you should be fine! good luck~

It really depends on you whether to take course or not. If you think you can put up consistently around 1-2 hours of study everyday and more on the weekends, then you need not go to prep classes as there are lot of good materials available. Instead of spending 1400$ on prep calsses you can spend 300$ to get all the available prep books and prepare on your own . This is just my personal opinion.
