I’ve been working in the IT sector for almost 3 years now, mostly in client coordination and digital product-related projects. Recently, I’ve started feeling more interested in the media, branding, entertainment, and content side of business rather than continuing purely in tech.
I’m considering pursuing a PGDM in Media and Entertainment, but I’m confused about whether switching from IT to this field is actually practical in the long run. Has anyone here made a similar transition from engineering/IT into media, marketing, entertainment, or communications?
I’m particularly trying to understand:
- Will IT experience add any value in media/entertainment roles?
- Do colleges prefer candidates with creative backgrounds?
- How difficult is the placement process after such a career shift?
- Would a general PGDM be safer than a specialized Media & Entertainment program?
I’ve been exploring a few Mumbai colleges like Welingkar Institute of Management Development and Research, MET Institute of Management, and Universal AI University because they seem to have exposure to media, marketing, and industry-oriented programs.
Would really appreciate honest advice from people who’ve gone through a similar journey or recruiters/alumni who understand how this switch is viewed in the industry.
