Hello
ss1997,
Making a strategic job change to align with your long-term goals and improve your application for an MBA program can be a wise decision.
Relevance to Post-MBA Goals: Transitioning into a role within the pharma industry will give you direct exposure to the field you plan to enter after your MBA. This experience can greatly enhance your understanding of the industry and make your post-MBA goals more credible and compelling in your application.
Skill Enhancement: If your current role isn't providing you with relevant experience or growth opportunities, a job change can provide the chance to acquire new skills and expertise that align with your aspirations.
SOP Enhancement: Changing jobs can strengthen your Statement of Purpose (SOP) for MBA applications. You'll have a more recent and relevant experience to discuss, showcasing your commitment to the pharma domain and your ability to adapt and learn.
Timing of the Job Change:
It's important to consider the timing of your job change. You want to demonstrate stability and growth in your career. Changing jobs too frequently might raise questions, but if you've spent a reasonable amount of time in your current role (usually a year or more), and the change is driven by your career goals, it's unlikely to be seen as negative by admissions committees.
Impact on Application to MBA Programs:
Your choice not to apply to Ivy League or top-tier colleges might slightly broaden your options, but it doesn't mean you should lower your standards. It's still important to target reputable programs that provide the education and networking opportunities you need to succeed in your chosen career path.
Admissions committees look for candidates who are thoughtful, have clear goals, and can articulate how their experiences and education align with those goals. Changing jobs with a clear rationale and direction can demonstrate that you're proactive and focused on your career.
In summary, making a job change to align with your desired industry and enhance your post-MBA goals can be beneficial for your MBA application. Ensure you communicate the reasons for the change effectively in your SOPs, highlighting the skills you've acquired and how they make you a strong fit for your chosen career path. Just remember to maintain a reasonable level of stability in your career history and focus on programs that best suit your aspirations and needs.

Hello All,
I am currently working at a big 4 consultancy in risk consulting as a data analyst. I am thinking of a job change to the industry specifically in Pharma domain. My main reason to get into consulting is so that I learn the job essentials and start consulting for pharma clients within the same organization. I unfortunately seem to be stuck in projects that donot see the light nor am I getting projects that are from the pharma domain. I have suported in 5 different projects and all are non-pharma.I also donot wish to elaborate on why I'm not getting non-pharma projects. I am seriously thinking of a job change now that I have the skillsets and the industry in mind.
Since I will be pursuing an MBA, I do plan to be in the pharma industry post-MBA, I want to understand if a change this early is advisable and how it would reflect while writing my SOPs for colleges. I definitely do think that I can write a great SOP highlighting the change.
I donot plan to apply to ivy or other top tier colleges but will this affect my chances of getting in either way.
Please let me know your thoughts and advice on the same. Thank you in advance.
