Hi. Currently doing BBA from a public university in Bangladesh. I want to join top MIM's such as HEC paris, ESSEC or LBS right after graduation. As per my research they don't require work exp but still most of the students seems to complete internship before joining the course. In my town, there is little emphasis on prior graduation, and even if such opportunities exist, the quality of work experience may not align with my desired career path after completing my Master's in Management (MIM).
I was thinking about publishing papers on banking and finance as I want to join a front office finance role upon graduation.
- Do you think it could be alternative to internships?
- Will it put equivalent weight to internships in the application
jayzeeVV2 an interesting question that could concern many Mim aspirants.
First of all, you need to understand that candidates gain plus points through internships because they can demonstrate that they have been in the real world of business and therefore will be able to better understand the concepts taught in a Mim program or evaluate the corporate problems they have personally experienced from an academic perspective. Now I am not sure how you are going to prove that the research work you do for your papers on banking and finance will have any relation to practical problems you have seen first hand. If you are willing to put in the effort to do extensive research with organizations in finance and banking while creating a solution for them through your work, that could be useful. However, if the papers have little substance, I do not think this would be helpful. To demonstrate practical experience, you would ideally need evidence of internships and recommendations.
Best wishes
