Hello insertnicksname,

A score of 550 is close to decent, but not sufficient enough to get into a top university. All top-ranking universities will require a score of at least 700 or above. We would request to write us back with the section score for Verbal and Quant to assist you better.

GMAT is not as easy as we assume. GMAT math is logic, and GMAT verbal is a real test of English as a language. So, we recommend you to look for reliable resources.

Considering your present score (Q31, V34), we have two plans for you, which you must follow to reach your target score. Finding your target score as 700, remember various possible combinations to achieve a score of 700 or above: V37/Q50, V39/Q49, V43/Q45.
.
Plan 1: Basic concept building --- try 600 level question--- take mock test ---- learn alternative methods and shortcuts ---- try 700+ level question --- take mock tests.

For verbal– Revise your grammar basics by GMAT grammar book or Aristotle grail for sentence correction. For RC and CR, try solving the 700+ level question.

For math, yes, basics are musts. You should visit our website https://www.mathrevolution.com to check our free trial lessons and free videos.
To strengthen the basic concept on various topics like arithmetic, algebra, geometry, and word problems, you should opt for a 5-hour Math Review lesson. Solve as many questions as you can relate to different topics.

Plan 2: Once your basics are strong, we recommend learning quick and alternative approaches to solve questions to save you the time. Q 51 shortcut will help you do so.

Keep checking your performance by taking mock tests. You may try our free diagnostic test once.

Let us know if you have further questions.
You can reach us at [email protected].

Success is within your reach.
Good luck!

Dear Punit:

Thanks for the suggestions! I will try these out. I've finished the Manhattan books and working on Powerscore CR bible and CR has improved a bit.
Upon checking, I think I always get half of the answers wrong in both Quant and Verbal so the score is low.

I've done well on SC when I do it on Gmatclub but I make careless mistakes when I do the mocks.

For Quant, I think my basics are okay when I answer questions per topic but when I mix them I run into problems (like I fail to see the equations in world problems or I fall for trick questions)

I always feel like I need to rush (maybe this is affecting my score as well).

Hopefully my scores improve even for just a bit after these tips. I will look at Mathrev as well. Thank you!

Hi insertnicksname,

GMAC has publicly stated that the Official Score that you earn on Test Day is within +/- 30 points of actual ability. Assuming a similar 'swing' in how your CATs function, your various CAT score results show that you essentially performed the same each time (about 530 +/- a few points). You handle certain aspects of the GMAT consistently well, but you also make certain consistent mistakes. Statistically-speaking, raising a 6530 to the point that you can consistently score 650+ will likely require at least another 2-3 months of consistent, guided study - and you'll have to make significant improvements to how you handle BOTH the Quant and Verbal sections. Thankfully, the GMAT is a consistent, predictable Exam, so you CAN train to score at a higher level. Based on your current timeline, you might need to consider pushing back your Test Date.

Before I can offer you any additional advice for your studies, it would help if you could provide a bit more information on how you've been studying and your goals:

1) On what dates did you take EACH of your CATs/mocks?
2) When are you planning to apply to Business School?
3) What Schools are you planning to apply to?

GMAT assassins aren't born, they're made,
Rich

Thanks for the response, Rich.

To answer your questions:
1) On what dates did you take EACH of your CATs/mocks? - usually on a Saturday. But since I tend to study at night, I plan to take the GMAT online at night instead.
2) When are you planning to apply to Business School? - Hopefully for Round 1 of 2021, but I've submitted to some schools for Jan 2021 who are offering alternatives to the GMAT
3) What Schools are you planning to apply to? Submitted to RSM, will submit to SMU, then if those don't pan out for January, Will retake the GMAT and submit to NTU and NUS. Dreaming of applying to INSEAD or Yale but with my progress, I'm not counting on it. Do you have suggestions that are within the range of these schools?

Hi insertnicksname,

The At-home GMAT is a bit more 'palatable' of an option at this point because you are now allowed to use a physical notepad. However, many GMATers have reported technical issues with their Exams and the 'format' of the Test is fixed (Quant, then Verbal - with no break in-between, then an optional 5-minute break, then IR). Having to take Quant and Verbal in one sitting is challenging for most GMATers (especially if you've been taking your CATs with an 8-minute break between sections). If you want to take the At-home GMAT, then you will have to be really rigorous about how you take your CATs/mocks going forward (and take them in the exact same fashion in which you will have to take the At-home GMAT).

Since you're interested in some highly-competitive Schools, you would likely find it beneficial to speak with an Admissions Expert about your overall profile and plans. Those Experts should be able to answer your Admissions questions and help define the specific areas of your profile that could use some improvement. There's a Forum full of those Experts here:

https://gmatclub.com/forum/ask-admissio ... tants-124/

By extension, if you ultimately "need" a 650+ to get into your first-choice School, then THAT Score Goal has to come first - and you have to give yourself enough study time to earn that type of Score. This means that you might need to consider pushing back your Test Date and when you apply.

I suggest that you study as you choose for the rest of this week, then take a NEW, FULL-LENGTH CAT this weekend (and make sure to take it in the At-home format described above). Once you have your Score, you should post back here (or you can feel free to PM me directly) and we can discuss the results and how you might best proceed with your studies.

GMAT assassins aren't born, they're made,
Rich
