To a point, all you really need to do is look at a schools avg GMAT and GPA. If you are at least avg in one and way over in the other you are competitive. If you are above both you are going to be more competitive. If you are below on one the other better be well above avg to have a chance. If you are below both then you better hope you have a background that is hard to come by.
Remember thats only showing your standing with those particular aspects of your profile. A VP from Goldman could get in to a top school with below average on either or both just because of how successful their career has been. If your career and background are nothing mind blowing for a school then you want to be as high as you can. Now this also doesnt factor in demographics. Certain groups have much higher gmats, engineers overall do well cause they typically nail the quant, everyone believes Indian IT people are way higher than every other group on average because over there scores are what get you into schools so they put a lot of emphasis on doing well and as a result prep very hard and do amazingly.
