Scheduled the test couple months ago...but somehow emergencies popped up one after another after the start oF New Year and had no time to study whatsoever. By the time I realized my test was today, it was too late to cancel so I thought why not? So I knew I would cancel my score today.
Took the test last June and did horribly. So I studied on and off from then till now. Since I knew I was gonna cancel my score today, I went in with a different mentality.
Quant:
-1 standard deviation/median quesiton
-2 combo/permutation questions but not nearly as hard as those posted here
-Couple rate/distance questions
-number property question, couple geometries
Verbal:
RC: Black movement, socialist, animals (my weakness, still have no clear strategy on this section)
CR: Pretty tough I thought....nothing compared to the ones in
OG.
SC: Straightforward
Overall:
I utilized several suggestions by those that scored 700+ in here and took it as a learning experience (an expensive one too!)
- Timing! Timing! Timing! I cannot stress this enough! One of my major mistakes on the 1st test was not timing myself and I ended up guessing a number of questions and it showed on my quant score.
I used those times when the directions are being shown on the screen to write down the time I should be on in 25 min intervals. This helped me TREMENDOUSLY! I never once looked at the clock on the screen! Seeing those numbers counting down freaked me out! So I just put my watch on the table and looked at the time indicated on my scratch paper and paced myself.
-Ear plugs help!!!! the testing center had those big earphones...and I found those to be EXTREMELY helpful. It filters out all these annoying mouse-clicking, keyboard noises and you don't get distracted by your surroundings such as people walking in and out..
-Don't dwell on your mistakes. Dwelling on your mistakes well just worsen the test and cost you valuable time because you cannot concentrate. Once you've answered, move on because its a whole new question.
-If you don't know the answer, move on. I know everybody says this on here but its true! If you find yourself solving for a problem that lasts over 3 min, forget it. Move on....use POE and make an educated guess.
-When I started to lose concentration during verbal.....I just told myself that I've come so far, just couple more min! So concentration is very important...I also found myself just looking away from the pc for a sec, gather my thoughts and take a deep breath and start reading again.
I know all these are nothing new to you guys but I hope it will be useful to those that still havent taken the test yet.
One question though, will I still get to see my score in my mail even though I canceled my score? I'm really curious as to how I did this time around (especially quant)
Planning to re-take in June...
