Please provide the explanation for Q2
Statement 1

  • MBA from full-time two-year program: Hence HBS qualifies.
  • 4+ years experience in investment banking: Insurance underwriting/modeling at a bank is not investment banking experience (IB usually refers to M&A, capital markets, ECM/DCM, lev fin, etc., not insurance underwriting). So fails this requirement.
  • Other skills (familiar with M&A strategies, valuation, managing due diligence, etc.) unlikely to be met without IB background.
  • 3 strong recommendations from associates or principals: Are unknown, but even if yes, fails the core experience requirement.

Thus Not Conclusively Eligible.

Statement 2

Analyst requirements:

  • University GPA > 3.2: 3.4 qualifies.
  • No MBA: He’s a senior in school, so no MBA, ok.
  • Graduate from Top 15 University: He’s currently senior at a Top 15, so will graduate from it.
  • Demonstrated interest in finance: He applied analytical skills to learn Excel and financial modeling in free time, could argue this shows interest.
  • Ability to work long hours, highly analytical, master Excel, mentioned he learned Excel/financial modeling.
  • Total years of experience less than 3 years: he’s still in college (no full-time experience presumably), so yes <3.

Meet all must-have criteria: Conclusively Eligible.

Statement 3

  • GPA > 3.2: unknown, not stated.
  • No MBA: she has 2.5 years consulting, so if no MBA, that’s fine.
  • Graduate from Top 15 University: not stated.
  • Demonstrated interest in finance: not stated; healthcare consulting may not be finance interest.
  • Experience < 3 years: 2.5 years qualifies.

But GPA and Top 15 graduation are not given, and “demonstrated interest in finance” not shown. Therefore

Not Conclusively Eligible.

Q2
"Candidate total years of experience must be less than 3 years"
Where in the 2nd statement is it mentioned that Brian had any experience? How can we "conclusively" say that?
And can "must be less than 3 years" include 0 year of experience ?

Hi Sajjad1994 KarishmaB In part 2 of Q2, how are we concluding that he has demonstrated long working hours? "After the internet bubble burst, he applied his analytical skills to learning excel and financial modeling in his free time". Comparing working during free time to ability to work long hours looks far fetched to me and given Q is asking if conclusively eligible, we should mark it NO . Please help.

Hi KarishmaB, when we say 4+ years of experience, does it mean at least 4 years or more than 4 years?
KarishmaB
Question 3.

3. Jack joins the bank fresh out of college at age 22 as an Analyst. What is the minimum number of years for Jack (from age 22) before Jack can become a Principal at this same bank?

He is fresh out of college and has joined as an analyst (so he has no MBA).
To become an Associate, he needs at least 2 years.
To become a Principal, he needs at least 2 more years of experience (since 4+ exp years for Principal)
Plus he needs 2 years for his full time MBA.

So in all it will take at least 6 years.
