Car X and Car Y were members of a cross-country race. If Car X and Car Y drove a total of 300 miles, how many miles did Car X drive?

(1) Car Y drove 3/4 as many miles as Car X did.

(2) Car X drove 11 percent of all miles driven in the race.

Car X and Car Y drove a total of 300 miles.

Let the number of miles driven by Car X and Car Y be x and y respectively.

we need to find x.

Statement 1:

(1) Car Y drove 3/4 as many miles as Car X did.

y = (3/4)* x

x+y = 300

x + (3/4)*x = 300

(7/4)* x = 300

x = 1200/7

Hence, Sufficient


Statement 2:

(2) Car X drove 11 percent of all miles driven in the race.

x = 11% of ALL MILES driven in the race.

x = 11%*( x+y+ rest of others).

we don’t know the exact values of y or rest of others.

Hence, Insufficient

Total distance by X and Y is 300 miles. X drove=?

Option 1:
Car Y drove 3/4 as many miles as X
x+3x/4=300
Will get a value for X. 1200/7

Option 2:
X drove 11% of all miles.
All miles is not 300 its just distance travelled by X and Y . Hence not sufficient.

Option A is the answer
