Hi GMAT Club,
This post is for career advice but my stats may be relevant so I am including them: 24 y/o white male, 337 GRE, 3.85 GPA from a highly rated liberal arts school. Aiming to apply Fall 2022 for Kellogg, Booth, Foster, Yale, and Wharton.
After undergrad I worked for 6 months as a PPC manager (which I hated) making 80k, then switched to dealing poker for two years where I'm making 110-120k depending on tips. The catch is that I'm already at the peak of my earning potential as a poker dealer and I think I will feel stagnant if I deal cards for the rest of my life.
Today I got a job offer to be a project manager at a small A/B testing company that works with blue chip clients (major US Sports leagues, FAANG, etc.) The owner said he can't justify paying more than 50k to an inexperienced PM like me but the work seems exciting and would give me a chance to demonstrate leadership and impact for MBA apps.
How much would a year of experience at a job like this improve my MBA apps? My post MBA goals are either an LDP or a job in non-technical marketing (CPG)
Could I include strong LORs as a part of the negotiation process? Is this too early to tell a new employer I plan to leave in 2 years for an MBA?
Is there a way to demonstrate leadership and impact as a poker dealer to be competitive for schools like Kellogg, Booth and Wharton? I wouldn't take a "promotion" as my casino supervisors are paid terribly and overworked.
Thank you for your thoughts, this is a really important decision so I want to make sure I get it right.
