Hi,
I am in the process of applying to business schools. I have an idea of where I want my career to head post MBA, but wanted to see whether that makes sense to everyone. Before I go into the details, a bit on my professional background:
I am an engineer (non-IT) from India with 5 years of work experience in Caterpillar. My work experience is primarily into new low cost product development for India CAT market and new technology development products for Next Gen CAT machines. I have been leading global teams and collaborating with global suppliers for product development since 3 years. Stakeholder, people and supplier management are part of my daily activity. I have a knowledge of the component development NPI process. A patent has also been filed on my name through company.
Goals:
Short term goal is to work as a product manager in a technology or manufacturing firm. My engineering degree and work experience have given me an understanding of the customer requirements and technical aspects of the product development. A MBA program will further help me to get an end-to-end understanding of the product development by acting as bridge as I lack the sales, marketing or management knowledge required for a product owner.
Long term goal is to seek an executive level position as VP / Director of product management leading business development / sales of the firm by developing low cost product solutions thereby expanding the companies outreach to area where cost plays major factor.
Looking for some honest feedback from the forum members whether the above points will make sense to Adcoms.
Thanks.
