Hey everyone,
I just received an invite to interview for my states governors office working directly for the governor. I have absolutely no political background and this is something that came to me through my network. I am applying for my MBA for the 2015-2016 year and want to see how this would effect my chances of getting in. On one hand its a great opportunity to rub elbows with people of influence and power as well as a chance to work on my team-working skills, networking and project management. On the other hand, it just doesn't quite make sense given my background in entrepreneurship and my post mba goals (start-ups/social entrepreneurial ventured).
How would this be viewed?

Hmm, interesting scenario... and tough to advise on without a lot more info about your profile and goals etc. My initial reaction would be that while yes I agree on pluses of the opportunity you mentioned (teamwork, project management, networking etc), I also agree with you that it would likely raise questions and the pressure would be on you to describe the 'why' of changing directions like that especially if not related to your longer term goals.... so if you feel uncertain of how you'd explain it, that could come across in a negative way in your apps and/or interview.... if on the flip side you determined it would be beneficial to your long-term plan, then that could be a different story. Good luck on the decision.
