Thanks for replying.

My concern is that as I am currently preparing for my GMAT to get a good score, I am doing some coursera courses on finance, learning finance hard skills from different souces and also plan to do the online forage internship, do you think that would help? Because I need full time GMAT preparation in order to excel in it and thus I prefer not to work/intern simultaneously along with my prep. Any advice would be hlepful.

Thank you.

Hello sych,

You will need to bag some experience in the domain of finance before making this switch; in short, you need to showcase your interest in a concrete manner.

Needless to say, a strong GMAT/GRE score will be extremely crucial as well.

All the best!

Hii everyone!
I’m a 2023 Hotel Management graduate, did internship for 1 year in USA and now planning for MiM or MFin ( it’s because I have interest in finance ) How hard will it be for me to crack into a top MFin course offered internationally? I plan to do an MiM and then MFin too but most of them have 1 year internship in between so I don’t really wanna waste time as I have planned already that I want to get into finance. Also I have planned to take finance courses from coursera, udemy etc. to make up my field knowledge and also planning to give CFA lv1 next year. Will that be considered or helpful in my case? Any advice would be a great help 🙏🏻🙏🏻

Thanks for replying,

So as I am not really up-to-date with the GMAT exam and the preparation is a bit challenging for me ( because of my hospitality background ) I am dedicating most of my time for GMAT prep and thus do not plan to work/intern simultaneously in order to excel in my GMAT. Because of that reason, I have also chosen to appear for CFA Lv1 next year. I do plan to do Forage online internship but mainly focusing on building finance basic knowledge and gain hard skills. Do you think that would help? Some advice on this would be really helpful.

Thank you.

Hi,

To make a competitive application for a globally recognized MFin program, you need to demonstrate interest in the field through internships/ full-time jobs. Along with that, you would require a solid GPA and GMAT/GRE score. It is good to mention additional courses on the resume, however a full-time job in Finance is the component which will add the most value to your profile so please try to secure one ASAP. There is a significant overlap between the CFA Level 1 curriculum and the core coursework of a typical Master’s in Finance (MFin) program, especially in foundational finance concepts. However, that being said, CFA focuses on self-study while an MFin degree is a broader academic and professional degree which provides you with great networking opportunities alongside.

Hi,

GMAT prep can be challenging, and consistent effort is necessary to ace the exam. However, studying for the exam is not a substitute for gaining practical experience. Most competitive MFin programs require 2-3 solid internships or full-time work experience to demonstrate your interest in the field. The Forage opportunity you are mentioning is more of a job simulation, which won't equip you with as much in-depth experience as a full-time finance role would. I would recommend focusing on your GMAT and gaining full-time experience in Finance for now, and then decide if you would like to pursue CFA as there is a significant overlap between MFin and CFA curriculum.
