Hey guys, can you please help me with your opinion about which school ? Carlson ($ 40%) vs Cornell (no $)

A couple things about my background:

-I'm looking into Corporate Finance, Financial services, or Management Consulting.
-I believe that Cornell might have better career opportunities, but given cost of living, I'd like to avoid NYC if possible.
- H1B job opportunities are important to me

what do you think?

What do you mean by this? After graduation? I assume you know that Johnson is in Ithaca (pic below). In the summer months, you can even pitch a tent or live in the trees (though that's more of a Haas style)

As to your decision, you are a finance person - the $80 difference is going to determine ease or difficulty of finding a job that pays well. You can compare averages for salaries of the two schools - that's the only method I can think of (though extremely inaccurate):

Starting Salaries after graduation:

Johnson: $127K (this is probably heavily influenced by NYC salaries and cost of living)
Carlson: $119K (probably equivalent)

Based on that data, you should head to Carlson!
But most have a lot more invested into it such as name, prestige, location, plans after graduation, etc.

Congratulations on making it to Carlson and Cornell. In terms of brand value, it is Cornell all the way. You will also have better career opportunities at Cornell which you already know of. You should definitely think about which part of the US you want to be in post-mba. The scholarship at Carlson and high living cost of NYC is difficult to overlook, but do they overweigh the opportunities at Cornell is for you to decide. I for one would definitely go to Cornell because of the better brand and the opportunities.

Good Luck!

Food for thought - if you go the Management Consulting route, it's not an automatic that you'll go to NYC. In fact, for Johnson, two common offices for placement among MBB are McKinsey - Pittsburgh and Bain - Dallas. Mainly because the head of those offices are Johnson grads.
