Does GMAT apply the CAT algorithm within an RC passage? Or based on your current level GMAT gives you an RC and there after all the RC questions you get for that passage are of the same level as you were presented the RC with?
In other words, if I get an RC of level 700 and if I get the 1st question wrong, would I get the next question of level say 680 or would it be of the same level i.e. 700? In other words, are the set of questions per RC predetermined by GMAT, or does GMAT apply the CAT algorithm before presenting the next RC "question" within the same passage?

Prep companies say that the questions are of different levels of difficulty, not the passages, well this is how MGMAT CATs work.
Usually the difficult questions are CR type - Inference, Must Agree to, etc. Passages are of the same difficulty.
It makes sense since you if you analyse the OG. Later questions are slightly difficult.

I agree with you to a certain extent. I see more EXCEPT, Inferences, Structural Analogy, etc types questions towards the later part of OG. But I have also felt that there is a slight correlation with the passage as well. I see the passage language gets more convoluted towards the later part of OG than the ones towards the start. More complexity thrown into the passage, making it harder to grasp. The passages at the start of the OG are smooth and you don't even need to take notes to grasp the passage but later part of the book you have to employ some strategy, which I am still working on.
