I have 14yrs of Experience in IT consulting field. I am planning to go for Part-time MBA at The Ohio State University (Fisher).

Could you please let me know your thoughts whether this is a right step for me to take.

I gave a thought of doing Full-time MBA. My thought was, If I can get into Top 10 schools my career prospects after MBA would be good. On the otherside If I do MBA from Top 10- Top 30 schools, I was not sure how my 14 yrs experience would be considered while hunting for Jobs.

Please shed your thoughts.

Though I have 14 yrs of experience, I was not able to climb corporate ladder very much. So, I did not think about EMBA.

Why do you want an MBA? Do you plan to stay in IT? Are you trying to completely change your job or industry?

Why I want an MBA?
I wanted to break into Management career path and thought having an MBA would provide me more oppurtunities. Also, What I thought was though I can break into Management career path with my current experience and skillset. I feel that having an MBA would definitely give me an added advantage at some point of my career, If not immediately after pursuing MBA. With this in mind I started exploring on doing Part-time MBA. But in the middle of this journey I started to think what benefits does Full-Time MBA provide me.

Do I plan to stay in IT?
This is where I am struck. If Full-time MBA can provide me oppurtunities to change industry(Finance or Investment Management). Then I want to go for Full-time MBA and change industry. Even after Full-time MBA If I would be back into IT field then I do not want to go for Full-Time MBA. rather I would prefer to do Part-Time MBA.

This is where I need your inputs. What are my chances of switching into my desired industry If I go for Full-time MBA?. My assumption is that due to my prior experience in IT field my resume would be more attractive to IT companies rathar than to any other industry.

To make it short I am open to be in IT/Consulting field and to change job into another industry by weighing on oppurtunities/ Prospects available for me. This is where I need to access and take the right decision.
