Thanks both of you. Sumithra, you know how the challanges are right? They dont seem particularly difficult or too far off from the real gmat, although, some of those questions, I know I will never see on the real gmat. Every test I have done I have run out of time on them.

Yes, I do the same thing on gmatPrep, even if I remember a question, I start from scratch and make sure I can solve it rather than clicking an answer , which I may or may not remember right. I am really trying to push it to 50/51, but it gets harder than from 48 to 49, which I know I can do now.

Hobbit, putting the challanges down seems like a bad option, considering I paid for it..:) But, yes, I will disregard my results, or try to do the tests untimed, or by giving myself a bit more time.

Verbal, I am doing the 1000 series, I know some answers are unreliable, but I dont have much else to practice from, and the OG questions, you will get done with so quickly. However, if I suspect an ans is not right, I look it up on the forum, and sure enough it's been discussed before.

Anyway, thanks for responding to my post. I was feeling pretty low after the last challange I took.

it also depends on how much time you have left for your prep. if a question is really hard, try doing it without timing yourself and see if you are able to get it without looking at the solution. depending on where you are in the prep, it may be more important to just solve tough questions without looking at the time as it will teach you how to think when you face a tough question. Moreover tougher questions have a way of solidifying your fundamentals that easy questions don't. But again it depends on how much time you have left and what is the optimum utilization of the time u have on your hands.

Thanks Guarav. I am not on a time crunch since I have not scheduled the exam yet. I am applying for 2008. So, March/April is when I want to do it.
So, I guess I will do the tough questions untimed then.

On another note, about Verbal, did any of you use the Manhattan SC? I notice something strange happening with my prep on SC. Now, I am making mistakes on SCs that I would not have made before based on what I thought sounded right/wrong, although the over all percentage of questions I get wrong has reduced by 50%.

I did use mahattan sc and think it was pretty good and helpful.
It did happen to me too on a few questions. I got a few questions wrong the second time when I had got them right the first time.
that is probably because of two reasons
1) wasn't sure the first time of the exact reason why the right choice was the right choice
2) lack of concentration the second time around....

Yes, among the wrong answers that I get now, it's split 50-50 between the exact same things.

Thanks

1. Challenges were designed to be harder than the actual GMAT - we hoped not to waste everyone's time with easy questions (though they do create a feeling of confidence which is important) but rather occupy one's time with hard questions, making sure they have a solid base before they show up at the test center. Don't worry about the scores you are getting - use the powerprep/gmac software to measure your performance - that's the only "realistic" score there will be.

Actually, hs, I would say that the challenge is exactly what you need. I've done a few of them and know that they are much harder than the real GMAT on average. However, the concept it tests are exactly where one might fail at the GMAT. I would not suggest people who're in their starting stage to attempt the challenge. For for people who is trying to push their score from 48 to 50, this is where you should be working.

Don't try to score perfectly, and don't feel discouraged to not have scored very high. The major purpose these challenge questions serve would be to broaden your horizon, to find your weakness and to sharpen your sense.

If you have time, please do use them to your maximum benefit.
