Main Questions:
  1. With a 700 GMAT, what are my realistic chances at these schools?
  2. Would a retake be necessary, or could I compensate with strong essays, LORs, and my unique profile?
  3. Are there any other strong marketing/strategy schools that might be a great fit for me?
Hi Robo_123,

That's a good profile, and you can apply to any school that you're interested in. As far as the GMAT is concerned, 645 is a good score, so a retake isn't necessary. However, a higher score could improve your chances.

All the best.

Hi Scott, While I will be going for a re-attempt, I wanted to check if I should be taking a shot at INSEAD this year itself for the Jan intake? Do you think I stand a chance there with this profile and score?

Hi Robo_123,

Regarding your GMAT, 645 is certainly a very solid score; however, if you think you can bump up your GMAT by another 40+ points, it certainly would help. Let us know what you end up deciding to do.

Hi everyone,
I’m considering applying to MBA programs and would love your expert opinions on my chances, given my profile and GMAT score of 700. I’m also open to recommendations on the best-suited schools for my profile.
Background & Academics
  • Nationality: Indian, Female
  • Education: B.Sc. (Hons) in Statistics from Kirori Mal College, University of Delhi (CGPA 8)
  • Certifications: Brand Management (London Business School), E-commerce Upskilling (Digiaccel)
GMAT Score
  • 1st attempt: 700 (Q84/DI80/V81)
  • 2nd attempt: 640 (felt my first attempt was better and aligned with mocks)
Work Experience (6.5+ years in E-commerce & Marketing)
  • Associate Director, E-commerce – GroupM Wavemaker (Current)
    • Leading quick commerce media strategy for global FMCG brands across Blinkit, Zepto, Amazon, and Flipkart.
    • Spearheaded initiatives that led to a 50% increase in e-commerce sales and a 70% improvement in key campaign metrics in just 9 months.
    • Managing and mentoring a team of 7.
  • Manager, Category Monetization – Blinkit
    • Built one of the first ad monetization platforms in quick commerce, developing the Blinkit Ads Dashboard.
    • Managed media plans for 50+ brands, increasing revenue by 65% in two months.
  • Associate Project Manager – Growisto
    • Led Amazon brand strategies, achieving top TACoS benchmarks and significantly increasing organic traffic for clients.
Achievements & Leadership
  • Impact 30 Under 30 Winner (2024)
  • Cannes Young Lions Top 10 (Media Category)
  • Grand EMVIE Award Winner for a high-impact campaign
  • Vice President, Department of Statistics, Kirori Mal College
Post-MBA Goals
I aim to transition into marketing strategy/brand management roles in global FMCG or tech or explore management consulting in the digital and consumer space.
Target Schools
  • US: Columbia, Kellogg, Wharton
  • Europe: INSEAD, LBS
  • India: ISB, IIMs (via GMAT)
Main Questions:
  1. With a 700 GMAT, what are my realistic chances at these schools?
  2. Would a retake be necessary, or could I compensate with strong essays, LORs, and my unique profile?
  3. Are there any other strong marketing/strategy schools that might be a great fit for me?
Looking forward to your insights!
Thanks in advance. 😊

Focus on your story - you should get the school you want with this score itself. You have 80 percentile plus in Quant and DI. But do check with school specific consultants too to ensure that they do not see any red flag in your score.

Hi there

You've already got a lot of good advice on your GMAT plans, so let me give you some inputs on your college plans.

Quote:
With a 700 GMAT, what are my realistic chances at these schools?

Columbia, Kellogg, Wharton - While 700/645 is a little below their median GMAT, your leadership roles and measurable impact (glad to see you mention the metrics. Most people don't give these enough importance on their resumes), and those awards should easily make up for it. So you'll have a very good chance at these colleges even if you don't retake.

INSEAD - While GMAT won't be a problem, INSEAD gives a lot of importance to international experience/exposure so even if you haven't worked abroad, make sure to incorporate the "international" focus somehow in your profile.

IIM/ISB - I'm not a big fan of the IIM PGPX (1-year) programs, which I assume you'll be targeting. ISB is very good though, and 700 should be fine.

Other schools you can consider:

Booth - known for its marketing analytics and strategy focus (and not just for Finance :)). It's also very scholarship friendly.
Duke/Emory - Both schools have solid reputations in marketing and leadership development
Cornell - has a strong marketing program and focuses on strategic management
HEC Paris - in case you want a more "within reach" option in Europe

Final Thoughts on GMAT

In case you do decide to retake, make sure you make some changes to your prep and overall approach, else you'll end up with the same or similar score. I have seen it happen enough times. Get in touch with one of the guys who have posted earlier on this thread and have a one-on-one discussion. If you want to go the Private Tutoring way, PM me and I'll be happy to give you some more free gyan :)

Good luck!

I assume you mean the Jan '26 intake. That's exactly what you should be targeting. You'll also get an internship in the Jan intake, unlike in the Sept intake. You are a little late for R1 but target R2 (22nd April deadline). And if you do get into INSEAD, you can then be a lot more ambitious in your choice of US schools in R1. The timeline will work to your advantage.

In my experience, INSEAD is one of the most low-GMAT friendly schools, so the 700 won't be a problem. Just make sure that your essays and recommendations vividly illustrate your career trajectory, leadership impact, and vision for your post-MBA goals. And highlight how "international" you are enough times in your essays. The INSEAD application has tons of essay questions, so you'll get lots of opportunities to highlight everything.

Get in touch if you need any help.

Thank you so much for your valuable feedback — I truly appreciate it. Given my current situation, I’m a bit concerned about casting a wide net and the potential job prospects that might follow.
For my next steps, I’m planning to pivot to the GRE (I’ve already been preparing for about a month). However, considering the current climate in the U.S., would you still recommend applying to schools like Kellogg, Wharton, CBS, Ross, Fuqua, or UCLA with my current score? Or would it be more strategic to focus on one-year MBA programs like those at ISB or the IIMs?

Hi Robo_123

Thanks for posting.

- Your background from a Statistics undergrad at Kirori Mal College to leading innovative quick-commerce solutions stands out in a pool of Indian applicants often dominated by engineers. By weaving in your tangible achievements and the analytical rigor you bring from your B.Sc. background, you convey a distinctive blend of data savvy and marketing prowess. This “hybrid thinker” positioning is especially compelling, given how few candidates truly integrate both analytics and creative brand-building in emerging markets like India.
- Keep in mind that brand management/brand strategy roles are more niche in the US/European markets, and your goals need to be aligned with your strengths and also the available opportunities for international students in these markets. Brand management, for example, in these locations is hard for someone who has not done that (at a more junior level) in these markets a bit earlier. Just food for thought.
- A 700 GMAT is ok but not great, and it’s just below the average at some of your target programs. If you feel you can realistically push it up by 20–30 points, a retake could help, but it’s not strictly mandatory. Use your B.Sc. in Statistics, high-impact marketing results, and personal accomplishments (Impact 30 Under 30, Cannes Young Lions) to prove you can handle the rigor—and then some. For INSEAD as well, a 700 may be a bit below par. For ISB and IIMs it could work.
- While Columbia, Kellogg, Wharton, INSEAD, LBS, and ISB align well with your global marketing ambitions, you might explore UCLA Anderson, NYU Stern, or Michigan Ross as potentially better “fit” options. These schools have strong marketing ecosystems, value creative problem-solving, and often give a fair shot to candidates with compelling professional narratives.

For someone with close to 7 years of work ex, a 1-year MBA is always a better idea, but I'm thinking more INSEAD and LBS. If you want to settle in India, however, then ISB and IIMs are the best in terms of RoI and ease of getting a job post MBA.
