Hjort,
I've been away for awhile immersed in my applications and waiting to hear back from the schools. First off, I want to say thank you for all the advice you have given me and others on this forum. After going through the application process, I personally know that the advice you give is legitimate, and it helped me out so much...Thanks. Now for the bad news, I am embarrassed to say that I wasn't able to make the cut at any of the schools I applied to. I was waitlisted at Yale so there is a ray of light still shinning there. While the application process for me was harsh, I did get some positive vibes from Harvard as well (invited to interview, dinged on the 29th). To recap, I applied to Dartmouth, Northwestern, Harvard, and Yale in that order. By the way, I believe there is a learning curve to writing a good application, which I believe is the reason I got positive vibes from the latter two schools.
If I were to pinpoint something that I felt was a weakness to my application, it would be my interviews; I don't think I had a solid interview with any of the schools I applied to. In fact, I don't think interviewing has ever been my strong point. Anyway, I would like to forget about the past and move on to thinking about my strategy for the future. I am still very adamant about going to business school, so I would like to analyze what I did wrong (essays, interviewing, etc.) and start getting ready for next year. If I didn't think I could improve or that have a competitive profile I would just apply to State U and get on with my education.
My question for you is, would you be willing to provide any sort of ding analysis on my essays, resume, and interviewing skills? I think this is the first step I need to take. Second, I have heard on various forums that HBS turns a cold shoulder to re-applicants. What do you think about re-applicants to HBS? The reason I would like to know your opinion on HBS is that I had a tremendous experience when I interviewed, and now I am a bit addicted to the idea of attending school there.
Again, thank you for all your help. I hope to be able to pay the favors forward in the future. I look forward to hearing from you.
