Q: Do you think Booth is giving me a chance and expecting me to get my GMAT score up in the meantime?

A: We think they are giving you a chance and aren't expecting you to up your GMAT in the meantime.

Q: Or do you think they've seen something they like and I got a good shot regardless?

A: This sounds like the same question, so we'll just refer to our first response.

We have to be frank with you, if the cost of retaking the GMAT (given all the upside) is too much of a financial burden, you may want to look at the cost of the MBA program itself. It's a drop in the bucket from what you will spend even if you manage to get some scholarship money.

Lastly, if you think you can actually improve your GMAT score significantly, take the exam again. If it's just a shot in the dark, just focus on the interview and hope for the best.

Our belief is also that they don't care about your explanation for a low GMAT and are giving you credit for the rest of your background/profile.

Hi, I recently got invited to interview for Chicago Booth Scholars. My GPA is close to the median (slightly below) and my GMAT is probably bottom 10-20%. I recently got invited to interview. I am wondering if they have 'accepted' my stats and it is now dependent on interview performance/other factors, or if I should retake my exam. It is stressful and expensive (paying for the exam is tough financially) to retake the exam, and I wouldn't want to do it if it isn't a strong ROI. I saw some data on here that showed GMAT score doesn't really impact post-interview success rates.

In my additional info section, I addressed my low GMAT score by citing A grades in several quantitative courses like calculus and physics. I also mentioned I plan on retaking the exam or GRE in the future to be competitive for scholarships (deferred programs assess you and give them out the year of matriculation) and future employers. When I said retake I meant like closer to my matriculation.

Do you think Booth is giving me a chance and expecting me to get my GMAT score up in the meantime? Or do you think they've seen something they like and I got a good shot regardless?

Really appreciate any opinions.

Had a sinilar situation with an European university. I had mentioned the reason and a desire to reappear for gmat but I got an interview call before I could re take gmat and got an admit also.
So I guess in your case you may not have to retake it untill and unless interviewer specifically asks for you to do so.
