I have 8 years of professional work experience.
Current Employer: 1 yr - (Consulting)
Company A: 5 yrs - (Engineering)
Company B: 2 yrs - (Engineering)
Choice of Recommenders:
Current Project Manager (started working for him this month)
Past Project Manager @ Current Company (worked for him for 1 year)
Client of Current Consulting Company (worked for her for 6 months)
Past Project Manager @ Company A (spent most years)
I need to pick only 2 recommenders. Since I only spent 1 month working for my current Project Manager, I am leaning towards excluding him. I am thinking I should definitely include my Project Manager from Company A because I spent the majority of my career in that company. But I am torn between my Past Project Manager at my current employer and a client of the current employer.
Please advise which 2 individuals would be the best picks?

Hey there,
Great question! I think you should go with your Past Proj Mgr @ Current Company. The reason I say this is because it's an entirely different type of work. A client can provide a very compelling recommendation and, in some cases, really shed light on a different side of your personality. However, you've only been in consulting for a year and you need to show your professional growth in both the roles and the industry at large. I like the juxtaposition of your previous employer in engineering and your current one in consulting. A client would be great but I think the more clear choice is the consulting project manager.
Also, I agree - exclude your current manager. The schools will understand!
