Choice is between A and E. A is better because it enters in E is incorrect.

D creates a list instead of presenting the two events separately as does C. The list however is unbalanced since it uses "circumnavigated" and "entering". Eliminate D.

E uses the present tense "enters" which contradicts with the past tense verb "became." Eliminate E.
