City dwellers and mental-health experts usually agree that it is the urban environment itself that is the chief breeding ground of emotional ill health; indeed, the viewpoint is that deeply ingrained that is axiomatic
a)
b) deeply enough ingrained that it is an axiom
c) so deeply ingrained as to be axiomatic
d) an axiom it is so deeply ingrained
e) as deeply ingrained as if it were an axiom

OA is Can anyone explain why it is not ?
Thank you!

There are two errors in E.
Error 1: "..as if.." is considered unidiomatic in GMAT English.
Error 2: Usage of "..were..". The first part of the sentence is in present tense, so the second part of the sentence should also be in present tense. Also, the sentence is about stating universal truth and must be in present tense.
