Colleges boast about the great sizes of their libraries. They quote figures in the hundreds of thousands of volumes, but how many books can a student read in four years—a thousand? What good, then, are all the rest?

Which one of the following statements most accurately expresses the author’s main point?

(A) College librarians do not have anything about which they can boast.

(B) No student can read more than a thousand books in four years.

(C) It is silly to boast about a library’s size, regardless of whether the library is large or small.

(D) Unused books are a waste of taxpayers’ money.

(E) College libraries are unnecessarily large.

Main point is author think their is no need to boast about college library.
-->D -" OFS"
-->B- Mentioned in premise
-->A- This is not what author wanted to say
So we are left with "c" and "e"

i think its "E" but i am not sure.

Stimulus states: colleges boast about the size of libraries; however most students hardly are able to read 1000 books in 4 years. The other books are of no use.

Which one of the following statements most accurately expresses the author’s main point?

(A) College librarians do not have anything about which they can boast. out of scope

(B) No student can read more than a thousand books in four years. repeats the premise of stimulus. Incorrect

(C) It is silly to boast about a library’s size, regardless of whether the library is large or small.

(D) Unused books are a waste of taxpayers’ money. No mention of tax payer or money

(E) College libraries are unnecessarily large.

between C and E. IMO E bcz the author explicitly speaks about large libraries and no mention of small libraries. The point the author is trying to make is large libraries are unnecessary as students hardly can read 1000 books in 4 years.

Answer must be E; It can be deduced from the premise that no student is going to use all the volumes available in a college library within his tenure. This is just an open and shut case.
