Columbia EMBA (Fri-Sat): "Early Decision" Admissions Advantage?

Around this time of the year, as the Columbia EMBA Early Decision deadline approaches (March 22, 2017), many EMBA candidates reach out to us at MBA Admit.com to inquire whether we think Early Decision really helps boost the odds of gaining admission to Columbia Business School.

Yes, applying in the Early Decision pool does have a strong, positive impact on your admissions odds, for many reasons.

Submitting your application in the Early Decision admissions pool at Columbia boosts your odds for admission to the EMBA program relative to the odds you will face after the Early Decision deadline because, upon Early Decision admission, you must pay a deposit to secure your spot at Columbia GSB. This signals that you have made a commitment to Columbia. For your willingness to make an early commitment and pay of the deposit, Columbia is often willing to show more flexibility with the candidate who has a notable flaw in their profile. So, if you have a less-than-ideal GMAT score, a low undergraduate GPA, or some hiccups in your professional record, etc., you often will be given more latitude to override the flaw during the Early Decision pool than you will during the regular admissions period.

It is possible to override a notable flaw in your candidacy if you present an excellently prepared application. At MBA Admit.com, we have helped candidates with GPAs as low as 2.1 and slightly lower to gain admission to Columbia EMBA with a strong and well-timed application.

For young candidates, Early Decision can also be a good choice. Columbia EMBA is friendly toward younger candidates, and by submitting your application in the Early Decision pool, you can help maximize your odds of success by applying when more seats are still available. Your Early Decision application will also signal your willingness to commit to Columbia if you are granted admission, which will aid your chances for a good admissions outcome. We have helped candidates as young as 25 to gain admission to the Columbia EMBA program, and key factors included success in presenting essays that conveyed the great value of their work experience as well as good timing in their application submission.
