I am trying to outline my essay for Columbia:
Please tell us what you feel most passionate about in life. (250 Characters)
This seems fairly straightforward, but I'm having some trouble determining whether I should give this a professional or a personal tone. For example, if I pick something that is a hobby and completely unrelated to my career, I'm afraid the AdComm may wonder why I'm not pursuing my passion as a career. Is this is a reasonable fear? Do you recommend picking a topic that can be tied to my career goals?

I take this question at face value- pick something the greatly excites you. Of course, it would not hurt if the topic ties in well with your career plans. If what you are passionate about and your career goals diverge greatly I think it is legitimate to question why you have chosen that profession.
