This is some correspondence I received from Columbia in this matter :

Hi XXXX,

Thank you for your interest in Columbia Business School. You may
submit
the transcript template within the online application and fill it out
to
the best of your ability. Please note in Optional Essay #5 how you
converted your grades. You are also welcome to submit an unofficial
transcript via fax to 212-662-6754 or an official transcript by mail.
You should choose whichever way you feel best displays your
undergraduate record.

I hope this helps! Please contact us if you have any further
questions.

I did my undergrad in Lebanon and my grad work in Canada. Both institutions have different grading systems. Columbia is requesting applicants to do the conversion themselves. Well, an 80% at one institution isn't the same as an 80% at another. I think Columbia is the only school that is requesting this. And it seems pretty stupid. I am contemplating not even applying just for their approach to the matter.

Do any of you have any opinions on the matter?

Thanks bsd_lover. it does help.
