Columbia’s EMBA Applications Now Open, 2019-2020!
As of 8/28/2019, Columbia Business School is now taking applications for its EMBA programs that begin in 2020! They released the essay questions for the EMBA-NY Saturday and EMBA-NY Friday/Saturday programs weeks earlier, but now you can also fill in the online application form and submit your entire application! Apply Early? Rolling Admissions and the “Early Mover” Advantage.
Columbia’s application process is rolling, which means that the earlier you submit your application, the more seats are still available for the program to which you are applying. Therefore, your odds for success will be higher. Among those candidates who should strive to take advantage of this “early mover” advantage are these:
• Flaw in the record. Candidates who have a flaw in their record (professional, academic, or extracurricular) and want to apply when there are plenty of seats available, so that their odds of overriding that flaw are greatest.
• Those who definitely want or need to start a program by the upcoming class intake. Candidates who definitely want to begin an EMBA program by this upcoming summer, and who are not willing to wait a year to re-apply to Columbia, should submit sooner rather than later. The sooner they hear yes or no from Columbia, the sooner they will know if they need to apply elsewhere.
• Corporate sponsorship. Candidates who want to try to persuade their companies to pay for their EMBA education. Many candidates find it is useful to have an admission in hand before approaching their companies for in-depth formal talks about financial sponsorship.
• Peace-of-mind. Candidates who want peace-of-mind in knowing they are admitted and can begin to plan for a summer or fall start.
Of course, plenty of candidates who do not have a notable flaw in their record will apply to Columbia early, simply because they want to apply when they have the best odds of success.
If you are beginning to prepare an application, be sure to begin to reach out to your ideal recommendation writers and study for the Executive Assessment (EA) exam (most applicants find the EA is much easier to prepare for than the GMAT). Columbia tends to want to see an EA score around 150 or higher, with a quant of 10 or higher.
