Company p's cost c, in dollars, of producing n units of a certain product is c=2.5n+25000. What is the greatest number of units that company p can produce if the cost of production these units cannot exceed $200,000?

A 55000
B 60000
C 65000
D 70000
E 75000

We can create the following equation:

2.5n + 25,000 ≤ 200,000

2.5n ≤ 175,000

n ≤ 70,000

Answer: D

Hi, could you please explain where it indicates the equal to. I understood the less than part. It can be interpreted in either ways, so how do we identify the equal to part. Thank you

Given: \(cost=2.5n+25,000\) and it must be less than or equal to 200,000 --> \(cost=2.5n+25,000\leq{200,000}\) --> \(n\leq{70,000}\). So, \(n_{max}=70,000\).

Answer: D.

The phrase “cannot exceed $200,000” means the cost must be less than or equal to 200,000. That’s why we use ≤ instead of just <.
