Hi guys! Today I took the second CAT and tried to do the AWA for the first time. I have never spent a single second to prepare this section. I would like to know from you if this is a good base from where to start.
ESSAY QUESTION:
The following appeared in an article in a consumer-electronics magazine:
"Company X's latest model of digital camera to be released next month, the TR12, is being promoted as the most portable, user-friendly digital camera available, and also an excellent bargain. It can be expected to live up to these claims, because Company X's previous model, the TR11, was universally lauded as setting the standard in these areas last year."

Answer (It is short, I know

)
The article enlightens the areas in which the Company X's last model is expected to excell. In order to do this, it cites the product promotion, which stongly asserts that the digital camera is the most portable and the most user-friendly, and in the end it also cites the special price. In addition, the article supports its claims by saying that the Company X's previous model was the same of the last in the areas reported.
Although it seem logic under some point of views, this article lacks of logical connections between the premises and the conclusion. In fact, a marketing campaign can be as good as possible, it can attract many constumers and generate big revenues, but this doesn't mean that the product must meet the claims made in the promotion. The same can be said for the comparison with the previous model; what if we knew that TR11 were the only good product launched by Company X's history? If that product represented only a special case, clearly TR12 would be less likely to be as good.
However, if we knew something else about company X, we could consider the argument more logical, instead. For example, in the company X's country, there could be a law that punish with severe fares companies that claim facts that are not true about their products; in this case, company X's promotion would acquire more basis. Furthermore, company X could come from an arising trend that hit the peak with the TR11 camera. Under these circumstances, the established company would have the criteria to meet the claims cited, and the article would sound perfectly logic.
Thank you in advance !
