Comparing the academic performances of the students of two schools A and B, an educationist found that the boys in school A consistently scored more than the girls. In school B the girls consistently scored more than the boys. The educationist concluded that the girls in school A did not score as much as the girls in school B.

Any of the following introduced into the above continues to make the conclusion logically correct EXCEPT:

A. The boys in school A and B scored the same.

B. The girls in school A scored less than the boys in school B.

C. The boys in school B scored the same as the girls in school A.

D. The boys in school A scored as much as the girls in school B

E. The boys in school A scored more than the boys in school B.
OFFICIAL EXPLANATION

Lets represent the boys in a school A and B as boys A and boys B respectively and the girls in school A and B as girls A and girls B respectively. Let the sign > represent scored more than and the sign < represent scored less than. As given in the passage

Boys A > girls A
Girls B > boys B

The conclusion of the educationist is girls A < girls in B.

The conclusion will hold true if the following equation is satisfied.

Girls B > boys B E boys A > girls A.

Choice (A) boys A = boys B then girls A < girls B

Choice (B) girls A < boys B then girls A < girls 8

Choice (C) boys B = girls A, then girls A < girls B

Choice (D) boys A = girls B then girls A < girls B

Choice (E) boys A > boys B

Only Choice (E) would invalidate the conclusion of the educationist because if the boys in A scored more than the boys in B, then they could have scored as much as. or more than the girls in B. Mis could lead to a situation where the girls in B may not have scored more than the girls in A.

Choice (E) is the correct choice
