It is required to correct the below sentence.
The tycoon contributed more to the candidate's profile than anyone else in the industry.
I corrected the above sentence as: The tycoon contributed more to the candidate's profile than anyone anyone else in the industry did.
But the correct answer to it as given is: The tycoon contributed more to the candidate's profile than did anyone anyone else in the industry.
Could someone tell me why the way I have corrected is wrong.
The tycoon contributed more to the candidate's profile than anyone else in the industry.

Your sentence - The tycoon contributed more to the candidate's profile than anyone else in the industry did.
The tycoon contributed to others. The tycoon contributed to the candidate's profile. The tycoon's contribution to the candidate's profile is more that his contribution to others.
Correct sentence - The tycoon contributed more to the candidate's profile than did anyone anyone else in the industry.
Others contributed to the candidate's profile. The tycoon also contributed more to the candidate's profile. But the tycoon's contribution was more.
If you see the subtlety, in the first, you are not comparing others contributions and tycoons contributions. You are just comparing others with tycoons contributions.
The "did" in the end of the sentence modifies industry.
The tycoon contributed to others. The tycoon contributed to the candidate's profile. The tycoon's contribution to the candidate's profile is more that his contribution to others.
Correct sentence - The tycoon contributed more to the candidate's profile than did anyone anyone else in the industry.
Others contributed to the candidate's profile. The tycoon also contributed more to the candidate's profile. But the tycoon's contribution was more.

The tycoon contributed more to the candidate's profile than anyone anyone else in the industry did. --- I cannot find any fault with this in the ordinary course, unless the originators have some special reason to call it wrong;
The tycoon contributed more to the candidate's profile than did anyone anyone else in the industry.---- This is another correct version nd is normally resorted to in informal writing. But not much different from yours.
