Everyone is saying that this year will be ultra competitive.
Looking at the % increase in GMAT test takers I'm guessing another ~15% increase in applicants this year versus last year, which was also a very competitive year compared to previous years.
Is a 15% increase really that much?...
I'm set on applying this year, but am really beginning to worry that my profile will not be competitive enough for a top school.
Timing is pretty important to me since I'm a career changer and want to go as soon as possible~

Perhaps we for this application season we can start a section on this forum that lets successful applicants voluntarily share application strategy/essays/essay approach/stats?
I know that we have the 2008/2009 profile with admit/ding results, but the stats doesn't give a holistic view of an applicant.
Although having something like this would be too late for me since I'm applying this year, I know I'd be more than happy to share my application strategy/some of my essays (depending on content)/stats and why I think I got in/got dinged.
What do you guys think? Enough demand for this? Is it redundant (in my mind it serves a different purpose than the 08/09 profile with admit/ding results, but thats just me)? Enough people will take the time to share?

I too would be interested in this topic. There was a thread the other day about historical admit rates and its comparison between years of a down economy and a relatively healthy economy (i.e. 2002 vs. 2004). The diff. in admit rates were STAGGERING to say the least. In some cases, from 15% in 2002 to 35% in 2004. Would this year be comparable to 2002? Quite possibly, so much so that I am thinking of pursuing a new job for a couple years to improve my 'pedigree' and WE and apply again in a couple years (at which time I would have 6 years of WE). Or, I could simply apply this year - but whereas in a typical year my "core" schools would be those in the top 15, and "safeties" in the top 25, I would now have to start looking at those "core" schools as "reaches" and the "safeties" as cores.

I believe the knowledge vault /trusted member profiles already caters for all this stuff. Bear in mind, most of the 08 candidates are probably busy organizing the zillion things they need to prior to starting school at the moment.
